More About the Author

Pat G'Orge (pronounced Gee-or-jay) - Walker is in a league of her own. This accomplished Christian author and comedienne has an amazing mind and talent for turning her observations of church life into gems of sidesplitting humor. It is her own special gift from God that enables G'Orge-Walker to depict the often ridiculous antics of church folk without subverting the Good News or watering down the potency of its message.

Pat G'Orge-Walker has paid a high price for the ever-present smile on her face. This Mt. Vernon, New York PK (preacher's kid) has survived a raging house fire; a violent assault; a car crash that mangled her body and a viral infection that left her temporarily blinded. Through it all, Pat quietly soaked in material from her father's Baptist congregation and her mother's Pentecostal assembly to create the stories that keep readers and audiences howling with laughter. Pat is a 'kept woman' whose life is held firmly and safely in God's hand. Mercy and compassion season every word spoken or written by Pat, who makes her story palpitate in the hearts of people who readily relate to victory over adversity.

The First Lady of Gospel Comedy forges a successful
career as author and comedian. She has paved the way for
many others in both fields. Pat's storytelling is likened to
Zora Neale Hurston's folklore'a documentation of
American culture and church life in literature.

Author Pat G'Orge-Walker has penned a wonderful, wonderful book that will make you belly laugh, especially while you think of certain church members who could definitely be Mother Pray Onn or Mother Blister in "Cruisin' On Desperation."

This is one book I have to start off saying, "See, what had happened was..." The members of the Oh Lawd, Why Am I Still Single Singles Club could not take it another moment after a string of women were married in the summer of 2005. We are talking about women too old to get a man, or too ugly to get a man, and one who married a thug in order to get a man. Whatever the reason, the members of the Oh Lawd, Why Am I Still Single Singles Club had to come up with their best plot to get a man and get married. So the planning and plotting began.

Sis. Need Sum was the president of the Singles Club, and she was the one who made the final decisions concerning what they would do. By the time she consulted with Mother Blister, Birdie Tweet, Petunia, Cill and Ima Hell Raiser, they concocted a plan that included going on a cruise to get back at Lyon Lipps an ex-con who made a living taking advantage of women. Oh it was pay back time for real, with a side order of "get a man" while they were on the cruise.

The women were able to pull it off while doing things to slight each other at the same time. But as always, author G'orge-Walker will have you in stitches while she takes you on the journey in the lives of the characters as they begin to transform by the power of God. Important life lessons are in this comedic read, and you will find out that there is no need to worry about getting a man, getting married or anything else you think God should hurry and do with your help.

Pat G'Orge-Walker is back! The latest book featuring the antics of Ain't Nobody Right But Us - All Others Going To Hell Church by this illustrious author, is yet another offering that proves that her talent for imagery is just as good as it's always been. You may remember her from the tales told emanating from her Sister Betty series of books. If you thought they were hilarious then, wait until you've met with the members of the `Oh-Lawd-Why-Am-I-Still-Single' church group on the current outing! The author in her new book, Cruisin' On Desperation, curtails their antics rather succinctly. Now, this is no ordinary group of ecclesiastical church abiding members. In my opinion, the one thing that stands out while reading this book is the characterization, and how the different settings mesh with a less than embellished storyline.

As a matter of fact, the latter is not indicative of how I rated the book...rather it's the way she allows each character to be the star of their own Diaspora while still managing to be a bridge to each other, which makes the difference. To this effect, the author does an outstanding job of allowing the characters to shine in lieu of a traditional storyline where plot, back-story, and setting are usually apropos. Each of them is aptly introduced, and the author did a good job of putting me in position to wonder which character I like best. Just when I thought one would win out, another would do something that would cause me to want to gain favor. I found out that no one character is solitary for my vote - they ALL win! But let me share with you a few of these characters in name only. You'll have to read the book to get the low down! Check out Sister Need Sum, twins Lyon and Lionel Lipps, Bea Blister, Slim Pickens, Ima Hellraiser, Birdie Tweet, Sasha Pray Onn...

When was the last time you have a deep belly crying laugh? Well, that was too long ago. The ladies in the Oh Lawd, Why Am I Still Single Singles Club will have you hootn' and hollerin over their conversations and plan to get back at Lyon Lipps. Their names and personalities alone bring about a chuckle; let me tell you about them. Cill and Petunia argued amongst each other but they were the mild ones in the group. Mother Blister was older than dirt, would forget her thoughts in mid-sentence, and had lost control of her bladder. Sister Need Sum (Needy) was the president of the club and clearly ran the show. Birdie Tweet is rich and doesn't mind throwing her money around. It just happens that she is the first and only white sister in the group.

Their plan was complex; see they tricked Lyon Lipps into believing that he won a cruise on the ship desperation. The ladies would create chaos on board, make Lyon's life hell all while enjoying a much needed vacation. However, the club can't do it all themselves they called in reinforcements: Sister Ima Hellraiser daughter of Sister Areel Hellraiser and Mother Pray Onn. The antics of these `church folk' come to a screeching halt when the Holy Spirit shows up and shows out. The drama is still working at home because Cill and Petunia can't make the trip but their hands are full trying to uncover dirt at home while dealing with Ima's cat, Evilene.

CRUISIN' ON DESPERATION offers a comedic twist on stereotypical church ladies. Be ready to laugh at the development and execution of the mission to destroy one man. The only problem is that in order to complete their task they will learn the real meaning of living for God. There are times when the action lags and the antics of Mother Pray Onn and Mother Blister are unbelievable.
