4.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Village People album, August 16, 2002
This review is from: Cruisin (Audio CD)
This contains YMCA, which is the most popular Village People song as well as being one of the most popular disco songs ever. But in my opinion, the best song on this album is The Women, which is not available on any Greatest Hits album. For that reason alone, I bought this CD. I definitely recommend it.

"Cruisin'" is one of the really good disco albums from The Village People; it has a lot of great music! These songs got people up and dancing on the dance floor with The Village People's signature throbbing disco beat and their upbeat, infectious energy--and the energy even on the few songs they did with lyrics that really weren't all that happy (for example, "Ups and Downs"). The quality of the sound here is very good, too.

"Y.M.C.A." was, of course, one of their biggest hits ever; the music that accompanies them as they sing this couldn't be better and I really like this number! There's a thirteen minute long medley of "The Women," an ode to "voluptuous" women everywhere, and the more gay themed "Hot Cop."

"My Roommate" always brings a smile to my face; this song amuses me with its lyrics about how roommates can be tough to live with; but make no mistake about it--this is classic disco at its best. "Ups and Downs" is about taking pills like "uppers" and "downers" to get through life. Although "Ups and Downs" is certainly not The Village People's greatest hit ever, it all holds its own very well and it gets my feet tapping to the beat without my even realizing it!

Overall, "Crusin'" is a strong album for any Village People fan; it's great to have this on CD especially since it's hard to find "The Women" on their other CDs. I also recommend this album for anyone who loves definitive disco music.
