The Cruising Chef Cookbook,
By Christine Carr (Santa Barbara, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cruising Chef Cookbook, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
Having just begun sailing, cruising and cooking aboard our sailing vessel, I wanted an up-to-date good reference manual. I found this book quite by chance. I consider this to be an essential item for the "chef" aboard ship. Every tip imaginable is included. The recipes are simple to prepare, yet elegant and tasty. To my surprise it also contains a section on what to do with certain food obtained "on the hoof" in 3rd world countries. I will buy this book for friends as a Bon Voyage present. A "must-have" book in the galley! The sailing stories scattered about the book are also good reading.

Excellent recipes that kept two guys well fed during a year in the Caribbean and scurvy free when crossing the Atlantic. The stories are very funny, the fishing guide hysterical - this guy has had some life.

The best of the breed... not only does Michael provide useful recipes galore, but also an excellent depth of conceptual information (which is what leads to galley competence). In my weight-sensitive boat, this is one of the very few books that is a permanent fixture in the on-board library.
Highly recommended!

GREAT BOOK!,
This review is from: Cruising Chef Cookbook, 2nd ed. (Paperback)
I collect cookbooks and this is the first one I read cover to cover in one sitting. It is so full of important information and written like a novel. I found myself with a highlighter - marking pages I wanted to remember and refer back to. We sail a 36' Catalina for 4-6 months a year. I love to cook, especially on the boat. This book will definitely have a prominent spot on my boat and will be a major reference book. I recommend this book to everyone - boaters and non-boaters alike. If you buy food, you will find extremely useful information contained in this book.

Great Cruising Reference Book,
By Soggy Paws (Sailing Around the World) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Cruising Chef Cookbook, 2nd Ed. (Paperback)
I got my first copy of this book back in about 1994, before we went cruising around the Caribbean. My copy has been so well used over the years that it finally fell apart. I replaced it with the new 2nd edition in 2010, to accompany us around the world. The 2nd ed is even better than the first. Great tips on provisioning for your cruise, as well as cooking underway and in those exotic harbors.

I just received the amazing Cruising Chef Cookbook for my birthday (thank you girls!). Practical yet unexpectedly funny, this is a must read for anyone who cooks while underway. The grilled whole chicken is already a new favorite. Um, definitely not for vegans though...
