I've used the previous edition of this guide and have found it to be very useful in preparing a trip. The guide appears written from the perspective of a small powerboat, thus encouraging quite a few surprizes if taken too literally. It is not clear how "updated" the new edition is. I've found I got tired before I could find substantial changes or cruising insights.

Good publication. Could benefit from MANY more detailed maps and pictures as well as MUCH more anchorage information. For the true sailing voyager that won't afford a Marina this may NOT be the right guide for you. Well articulated, but ambiguous prose, can prove a bit misleading. I prefer the dry hard facts outlined in easily referenced, numbered sequences.

My family and I recently took a three day sailboat cruise in the Albemarle sound. This was covered in Chapter 2 of this book. FANTASTIC resource. The text gave exact lat. and long. of protected anchorages, restaurant recommendations, location of public showers and pump-out stations, local attractions, etc. This is a MUST HAVE if you are planning a vacation on a boat in this region.

Found the guide to be very accurate and it was very helpful as I planned a trip using Chart Kit Region # 6 .The Guide confirmed some of the questionable areas noted on the charts .Also the info on marinas was helpful in planning a days run as traveling by sail is a longer and slower day - info on fuel was helpful .I would like to have seen a mileage reference chart .A very useful and informative book .

If you are living in Eastern NC and have a boat, this should be in your library. Lots of good, detailed information on what to see and where to go, as well as where get help if you need it.

Both the NC & SC books were extremely helpful informative. We can't wait to go on an adventure and eat and stay at one of the recommended stops along the coastal areas of the Carolinas.

My parents are retiring to NC. They are boaters, and it is difficult to find a boating guide specific to their region, so this made a perfect gift.

This a well organized and written guide. But it obviously includes only the sites that were willing to pay for the advertisement. Several very good marina's are conspicuous by their absense.
