This review is from: A Cruising Guide to Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands: Olympia to Port Angeles (Spiral-bound)
This is an excelent book for Puget Sound boaters, A DEFINATE MUST BUY!
It is very easy to find locations and is up to date. A crusing guide lists, Beauty/interest, Protection, Facilities, Latitude and longitude, Phone numbers and web sites of marinas, parks, etc. It also has many wonderful color pictures of area atractions, plus charts and tidal curent charts This is a much better book than Gunkholing in the South Puget Sound which is eight years out of date.

This is a must have boaters book if you live in the Puget Sound area. Very detailed in the points of interest, each one is clearly described and rated. Some charting is included for difficult harbors, approaches are described. This gives us (new boaters and new Washingtonians) a great place to start in our explorations. Highly recommended!!!

Great Guide to a Great Place,

An excellent guide to this outstanding cruising area; obviously well researched and very well written and compiled. From a pilotage viewpoint, it could be improved with a few, more detailed "chartlets" of some of the more difficult approaches and port/dock entries, but the first rate collection of photographs and especially the superb aerial photographs (by Neil Rabinowitz) provide make up for this very minor deficiency.

With this book at your helm, you'll navigate Puget Sound with confidence. A beautiful, accurate, indispensable guide.
The other reviewers say it all -- This is a fine cruisng guide. Wayne Heinz, author of, How to Catch Salmon, Sturgeon, Lingcod, Rockfish, and Halibut Along the Pacific Coast: Fish On!

Excellent guide book with great information (docking, fuel, eateries, malls, to do lists) for cruising the Puget Sound area. It has become part of the boat library.

I bought the "A Cruising Guide to Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands" by Migael M. Scherer for an upcoming trip to the San Juans this summer. The guide has lots of information and beautiful pictures from the various inlets and towns of Puget Sound and the surrounding areas, but I was a little disappointed with the charts, which seemed to be just reproductions of USCG nautical maps. I think this guide tries to do too much, and would have benefited by concentrating on one locale or area. Some more defined charts would have been helpful also. Nonetheless, anyone who is a sailor will appreciate it, and I would recommend it to someone who is sailing those waters.

Very informative, well written, nice layout. Looking forward to much more future use! If I find gunkholing the Gulf Isl by same author next, I'm buying it!

Bought this for a one week sailing trip around San Juan Islands. Its okay, but it covers the whole of Puget sound, so better for someone who lives in the area and is going to lots of places. Nothing is in much depth. It also is not very well organized, so difficult to find your place while you're actually sailing. Seems like it hops around and the index does not lead you to any area easily. Some nice photos in it. I think I'll send it to a friend who lives on the sound and hope they get some use from it.

Wow! Ordered this book from Amazon and was truly impressed when it arrived. The spiral binding is very nice which allows the pages to lay flat and the heavy cover tucks acound them when the book is closed to protect the page edges - a great touch. The layout is quite logical and the text about each area is first class. Moorings, approaches, and facilities are discussed in excellent detail. The color photos are superb and really help to show many of the marinas, coves and bays and help to illustrate the included charts. This makes the book very good for inexperienced cruisers (or onboard guests) to study. I expect this will be a book we will really use this season.
Although not really a review of the book the service from Amazon was just great! The free shipping was fast, the book price was excellent and everything arrived in perfect shape. I continue to be impressed with the overall service.
