Book Description

June 15, 1999
Cruising sailors around the world know that San Francisco Bay is an excellent cruising destination, but few know of the multitude of destinations available here. Within a few hours sail of each other are the often cool City Front and the often sunny Alameda Island, busy Sausalito and the sleepy Petaluma, accessible South Beach Harbor and remote China Camp. In this expanded and updated version of Cruising Guide to San Francisco Bay, sailors can learn where all the open anchorages and marinas in and around San Francisco Bay are, from as far south as Alviso to Suisun City to the north. This new edition also includes four new destinations outside the Bay: Drakes Bay, Tomales Bay, Bodega Harbor, and Pillar Point Harbor. For each of these destinations are detailed instructions on how to get there safely, where to anchor or tie up, and what to do there. Charts and photographs supplement the directions throughout. Even most long-time San Francisco Bay sailors will find something fresh in the comprehensive, revised edition of Cruising Guide to San Francisco Bay.

About the Author

Carolyn and Bob Mehaffy had a boat moored in a marina in San Francisco Bay from 1969 to 1997, when they began a long-term cruise that will take them wherever the winds and their fancies blow. On their Hardin 45 staysail ketch, Carricklee, they have just completed a year in the Hawaiian Islands and another year in the waters of Puget Sound, Western Canada, and Alaska.

I have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area my entire life. Who would have thought that I would need a guide book for the Bay? Well there is a ton of information that it would take several years of sailing the Bay to figure out. I keep this on my boat so when we head out we always have marina and anchorage information at our finger tips. I found a great marina to berth my boat due to the review of the marina and surrounding area that I may not have even given a second thought to! With this guide I am able to plan weekend getaways and some fun 3-4 day trips complete with where to stop, drop the hook or get a quick bite.
