5.0 out of 5 stars Don't go sailing in the BVI without this...
I recently did a sailing course in the BVI and this book came as part of the package. It was an invaluable asset to sailing in the Virgin Islands and I highly recommend it before going there. Details on restaurants, places to anchor for the day and overnight anchorages. This is a great reference book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Sure are a lot of ads!
My main impression is that the book has as many ads as a magazine. I picked ten pages at random and six of them had ads. It does seem to be a reasonably good cruising guide, and many of the ads are topical, but some information is sparse, e.g., lengths of suggested walks or hikes ashore is missing. But the book does include much information.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best single source of information for the VI sailor., March 12, 2001

If you only had one publication to take on a trip to the Virgin Islands this would be it. The updates are good which means their research is working and I am really pleased to see the return to a spiral binding. This works so well when you want it to stay opened to a particular page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't Sail the VI's without a copy, August 18, 2000

I wouldn't sail the Virgin Islands without the latest copy of this guide. It is one of the better cruising guides to the busiest charter area in the world. I did like it better with the spiral binding in the earlier editions. Much easier to turn to a section and leave it open.

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting ready for BVI, November 14, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
" Cruising Guide to the Vergin Islands" is a wonderful wish book if you are getting ready to go to the Islands for a charter vacation. It is loaded with information on routes, anchorages, what to do ashore, what to eat at the many out of the way places located on the coves and harbors scattered around the Vergin Islands. It's divided between the Virgin Islands and the British Virgin Islands to keep things simple. It even gives some insight on how real estate can be had if you want to Live the dream..Even a chart so you can plot your routes around the Islands. Good reading even if you never make the trip.

This review is from: The Cruising Guide to the Virgin Islands: A Complete Guide for Yachtsmen, Divers and Watersports Enthusiasts (Spiral-bound)
I purchased this book prior to a sailing trip through the British Virgin Islands. My family has bareboat chartered in other locations before, but was our first trip to the BVI. This guide was outstanding - gave thorough information about anchoring, mooring and also activities and amenities to enjoy on the various islands. I would highly recommend purchasing this book prior to boating in the Virgin Islands. There is so much to do - we plan to go back next year - we couldn't get to all of the great places this year on a 9 day trip.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not the current version, February 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It's a good cruising guide, really the only one out there and sufficient to plan a trip to the BVIs. Note that this one isn't the current version - the 2011-2013 version just came out (a week after I bought this one) and it's the same price. Check out TravelTalkOnline for a seller who will ship the current version.

This is the third cruising guide that I have purchased for the VI over the years, this one lives up to my high expectations for content and relevance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Back to basics, April 9, 2009
This is the fourth time I buy "Cruising Guide to the BVI", the first one was back in 1995. It continues to be the basic guide to sail in the area and the work Nancy and Simon Scott are doing to its constant updating and upgrading makes this guide an essential tool for anyone who loves to spend some time afloat in that sailing paradise. Congratulations to the authors. I'll hope to be there to buy the next edition!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An easy guide for some the worlds easiest sailing waters, May 24, 2005
This review is from: The Cruising Guide to the Virgin Islands: A Complete Guide for Yachtsmen, Divers and Watersports Enthusiasts (Spiral-bound)
The spiral binder is a simple solution to using the book aboard. While it is true that you'll get a lot of ads it's a fair trade off since you'll only pay about half of what other cruising guides cost and it will show you the services you're likely to use. I find the technical aspects of this guide (anchoring, mooring, customs, etc.) to be clear and accurate. I've used some well respected guides for other areas that were not so.
