I wanted a camera bag that didn't look like, well a camera bag. I got the Crumpler because it looks like a messenger bag and didn't stick out to bad. I have a Nikon D40 and kit lens and this bag fits perfectly for it. There is one support pad which you can adjust, I have it supporting the camera grip and the lens seems fine in it. There is a little room left for a small notebook or external flash.

The strap on this doesn't have any soft padding for your neck, just that black strap material so when you sling it over your should it hits your neck. The main compartment doesn't close with a zipper but only with the main flap. The flap though has a velcro and snap/hook closure.

The main thing about this bag is the looks, nice modern. The material, seems abit nicer than the Lowepro or Tamrac bags. The bag itself is not a big box, it has softer walls meaning it isn't "rectangular" but more of a natural shape to it.

I like to take my camera everywhere I go and the Crumpler is designed to not be so obvious there's a camera in it. If you have more than the kit lens and flash, or have a larger DSLR (my Nikon D40 is pretty smalled compared to other DSLRs) I would look for a bigger bag. Cheers.

I just got my crumpler today and I'm so excited to take it out for a shoot.

Size: I was able to load in my xti along with the 18-55mm kit lens attached with some space left over. I'm not sure if I'd feel comfortable sticking another lens in there without it being a tight squeeze, but it's a very good fit for the body, kit lens, and charger/maybe a filter or two.

For a day shoot or a short trip where I don't plan on changing lenses constantly this is going to be a good light bag.

And, as they always mention with crumpler, the bag doesn't look like a typical camera bag. I got the red one and I love it.

Pretty darn good May 9, 2009

This is a good bag - very sturdy and well-cushioned, and it does a good job of protecting my gear in the rain. (I unfortunately got caught in a downpour, with a tiny umbrella, the first time I took it out.) I have a D40, which is on the smaller side, and the bag fits that, the kit lens and my 55-200mm lens, as well as the lens hood. (I should note that I have folded down the top part of the divider between the compartments, as it goes up too high and gets in the way.) I do find that the strap can get uncomfortable after a full day of carrying this around messenger-style, so a cushion may be in order.

The bag has some interior pockets, including a mesh zippered pocket on the inside of the flap, good for small/flat items. The pockets on the front are hard to get into and the hidden pockets on the side (where the strap meets the bag) might as well not even be there. The front pocket (under the flap) expands open a bit, and within that is a mesh pocket with a velcro closure. This is practically useless as the mesh is flush to the bag and the velcro is pretty tough -- I can slide in a skinny moleskine notebook, but wouldn't put anything smaller in there for fear of being unable to get it out without pliers or tweezers. There's enough room in that front pocket for a magic/Jacob's ladder wallet and a small keyring. Luckily there is enough room in the rest of the bag that I can slip in some tissues for allergy season and a tiny travel bottle of sunscreen for the summer.

I am not a gal who likes to carry more than one bag if she can help it, so was looking for something that would hold all of my gear, plus the basics of wallet, keys, etc. This barely fits that bill, but I was afraid that the next size up would be too big. Obviously if you don't take a second lens out with you, there's more room for all this other kind of stuff. But if you travel light (or make sure you always have enough pockets in your pants/coat/etc) this will do you well.

Crumpler is the best
You can never go wrong with Crumpler. The design looks more like a messenger bag than a camera bag. Nearly indestructible. Read more
