I don't know how to make a perfect bag, but Crumpler does.

If you want cell phone pockets, unreliable fasteners or a space for your iPod with a headphone hole, DO NOT buy this bag.
If you want a bag that can hold a whole lot of food, beach balls, cassette tapes, license plates, spray paint, climbing gear, or spare bicycle parts then by all means purchase this bag now.

This bag consists of one large compartment capable of carrying just about anything you would want to carry while riding a bike. Also, there are a couple smaller zipper pockets more suited for flat things and a velcro closure perfect for a U-lock.
The back has three highly reflective patches that look somewhat like an angry face in the dark. Almost as if it's tired of sitting around all day.
It sits up on its own when more than half full, just like in the picture. Pretty kool. Keeps the dirt off the back part of the pack.
And it's tough.
I took a spill on my bike, slid on a red curb with the bag under me; and the only sign that anything had happened was a two inch red mark on the bag.
This bag has replaced two others, and I have not found a thing I would change with it.
