From the Manufacturer

Crumpler Logo

The history of Crumpler originates in the world of bike messengers and their messenger bags. However, since 1995 the Crumpler collection of bags has greatly expanded. The range includes professional camera bags, laptop and technology bags, backpacks, casual bags and luggage. But despite the evolution in style and use that Crumpler bags have undergone, the principles behind the original pattern have basically remained the same — creativity, innovation, a willingness to experiment, a big dose of humor and products that are built to last a lifetime.

Crumpler is known for high-quality craftsmanship.

The Industry Disgrace Camera Strap features
an ergonomic, double-layer neoprene neck cushion.

High-quality craftsmanship

Simply put, Crumpler products are well made. All Crumpler products are crafted by hand, beginning as a sketch on paper and then turned into design patterns-all before any piece of fabric is employed. Designing camera bags the old fashioned way preserves the soul and identity of the products and ensures the bags and their uses are thoroughly considered as they're developed.

Just like the originals, all Crumpler photo bags are made of sturdy, high-quality materials. This means that Crumpler camera bags are durable enough to stand up to the high wear and tear that an avid photo enthusiast might put on his or her camera bag. All Crumpler photo bags are made with waterproof, heavy denier nylon and feature a water-resistant design, so they are able to take on the outdoor elements and protect your gear.

In fact, we are so certain of the durability of our bags that all Crumpler bags feature our legendary, one-of-a-kind "'Til Death Do Us Part" warranty.

I chose the Whickey and Cox because it has a laptop sleeve, so he'd be able to travel easily with both his computer and his camera.

This is a great bag. Upon pulling the bag from the box you can tell it is a very high quality product. The material is very thick and strong. I just got back from a trip to Cost Rica where I carried a Nikon D700 body, a prime 50mm, 24mm and the very heavy and long 80-200 2.8 lens. I also had my Canon HD video camera with wide angle adapter and mic, all the charges extra batteries, a SB600 flash and my 15 in Mac Book Pro. I also carried a tripod on the outside as well during the daytime excursions. I carried this weight all day long and my shoulders and back never started to hurt. During one of the days I was caught outside when it started raining hard, the bag worked flawlessly. After hrs of being in the rain, the inside of the bag stayed completely dry, even the outside pockets that had my passport and snacks in it were still dry after all day in the rain. One of the other great features I came to love on this back pack is that the only way to open the bag is when it is off your shoulders, I will admit that this was a bit of a struggle to get used to as my pervious bag I could get into if I had it on one shoulder. But after a day of use, I did not mind it at all. Plus I loved knowing that no one was going to be able to steel anything out of it on my back which is a very nice thing when caring all of your valuable equipment.

Extremely well made and well thought out design. If you're a big guy like me (6'6"/280) you might want to step up to the karachi outpost; even if you dont have the gear to fill it, it will be a lot more comfortable.

Pro: Holds everything I need, including passport, Nikon D200, 18-200VR lens, extra lens & battery, iPOD, headphone, notebook, Dell D610, charger. Pretty comfortable to carry and looks nice.

Con: After two weeks traveling with this backpack, the coolmax-like material on top of the bag became scuffed. The two side pockets are very difficult to access when the pack is full. while the internal padded "pod" offers good protection for the camera, it tends to "sink" deeper into the bag, making it very difficult to move the camera out of the bag.

Based on my travel experience, I probably wouldn't use this bag for long distance travel again as it doesn't fit the way I travel. If you are looking for one bag that holds everything, this could be a good choice.

This is the second Crumpler bag that I have purchased for my boyfriend, an avid amateur photographer, and it is the third that he has owned in total. I originally bought him the $5M Home; he upgraded to the $7M Home when he got a new camera and a new lens; and this year I bought him the Whickey and Cox backpack.

I bought him a backpack because his gear had gotten sufficiently heavy that carrying it around in a shoulder bag all day was getting hard on his back. He wanted a backpack to distribute the weight evenly across his shoulders. I chose the Whickey and Cox because it has a laptop sleeve, so he'd be able to travel easily with both his computer and his camera.

He is very happy with the backpack. He's a big guy (6'4"), so the "waist" strap on the pack fits more around his lower torso than around his waist, but otherwise the pack is comfortable to wear and is a big improvement on the shoulder bag. There are a lot of compartments on the inside for all his lenses and other gear, so everything is neat and organized within the bag. He is able to fit one camera body, two lenses, a bunch of filters, and some other camera accessories into all the compartments with ease. He can secure his tripod to the outside when he needs it.

The zipper access to the bag, along the back panel, is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, everything in the pack is very secure, and he doesn't have to worry about someone unzipping his bag from the outside and stealing anything. On the other hand, though, it means that he has to take the bag off and open it up entirely whenever he wants to access something.

I bought the Whickey & Cox camera backpack for my recent safari trip to South Africa, specifically to carry my 2 DSLR's (Nikon D80 & D90) and 2 Nikon lenses (18-200 and 70-300) plus batteries, media, filters, etc. Once I figured out how to arrange the interior liners to accommodate the equipment, I was very pleased with the fit - there was room for all my gear, and everything was well-protected. I could also have included my Sony Vaio laptop, but the extra weight was a bit much and I didn't really want to take the laptop to Africa anyway. I looked at a lot of other backpacks before buying the W&C, and there are very few that can carry all my gear so comfortably - I would certainly recommend the Whicky & Cox to other potential purchasers.
