Commonsense advice. Mighty thin volume.,
By D. Stuart "Researcher at Kudos" (Auckland NZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Crunch Point: The 21 Secrets to Succeeding When It Matters Most (Hardcover)
Brian Tracy has produced another great headline (Eat that Frog!) on which to hang 21 simple, straightforward pieces of advice, but as with his other books this motivational speaker has produced a very thin volume - just 117 pages. Brevity can be a good thing, sure, but at some point you wonder: "where's the beef?" I found myself nodding in agreement at the advice - there's nothing wrong with any of it - but next day I found it hard to remember much of what it said: a case of easy in/easy out. Tracy may be an excellent speaker, but as a writer he doesn't engage the brain sufficiently. There was nothing really new, provocative or profound here.

Brian Tracy delivers the cure for fear-driven paralysis,
By
This review is from: Crunch Point: The 21 Secrets to Succeeding When It Matters Most (Hardcover)
When things go sideways, it's common for the human mind to shift to "worst case scenarios." Dwelling on these hypothetical situations generates fear, fear induces paralysis, and the "self-fulfilling prophecy"...dwelling on what you DO NOT WANT instead of facing fear head-on and fighting for what you DO WANT...becomes a reality.
The chapters are "Stay Calm," "Be Confident In Your Abilities," "Dare To Go Forward," "Get The Facts," "Take Control," "Cut Your Losses," "Manage The Crisis," "Communicate Constantly," "Identify Your Constraints," "Unleash Your Creativity," "Focus On Key Result Areas," "Concentrate On Priorities," "Counterattack!," "Generate Cash Flow," "Care For your Customers," "Close More Sales," "Keep Things Simple," "Conserve Your Energy," "Make Your Connection," "Character Is King," and "Put It All Together." To the reviewer who commented on the size of the book (117 pages), all I can say is that I'd rather have a 117 page book that is focused and filled with usable information than a 300 page book that says nothing and goes nowhere. Look at those chapter titles. You WILL get your money's worth on this one. This book is targeted toward working men and women with their backs to the wall. The only thing that will turn around a bad situation is calm, consistent, well-planned action. This book provides the framework. You fill in the blanks. Stop worrying, roll up your sleeves, and get to work. Brian Tracy will coach you out of your fear, but only if you read the book and take the appropriate actions. Don't buy the book, set it on your shelf, and go back to worrying. You will get stronger with every step you take, no matter how small the steps might be. TAKING the steps is the secret.

This review is from: Crunch Point: The 21 Secrets to Succeeding When It Matters Most (Hardcover)
Brian's book came at a crucial point in my business when I needed some practical advice, not just more philosophical "business speak". Crunch Point was a great read with applicable information and ideas that will pay dividends for many years to come!

fighting the crunch,

This review is from: Crunch Point: The 21 Secrets to Succeeding When It Matters Most (Hardcover)
This book is a sourcebook of encouragement and practical advice on how to deal with business problems that could and will spin out of control unless they are handled deliberately and decisively. Plain good advice, though not necessarily easy to implement. A good read, beneficial to all and not limited to just business concerns but has principles that apply to all of life.

Valuable advice on how to stay calm in the face of a crisis,
This review is from: Crunch Point: The 21 Secrets to Succeeding When It Matters Most (Hardcover)
"When in danger or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout," joked science fiction writer Robert Heinlein about how to handle a crisis. Well, if that is not an option, how should you handle yourself during an emergency, especially if you are in charge? Unfortunately, too many people freeze when trouble confronts them head-on. While most catastrophes do not send advance warnings, you can prepare yourself for the possibility of a setback. Brian Tracy offers valuable, hands-on information in a short, smart, knockout punch. Tracy describes 21 practical steps you can take to defuse a disaster, get your ship righted and head correctly back on course. getAbstract suggests reading his book if you don't want to get caught unprepared when a sudden, serious crisis hits you or your company.

Crunch Point,
This review is from: Crunch Point: The 21 Secrets to Succeeding When It Matters Most (Hardcover)
This was a great book. I used the 21 secrets to succeeding during a "team building" exercise with my group. I had each member use one secret and relate this to their everyday job. Everyone really enjoyed the exercise and I was grateful to have this book as a reference.

Brian's books are to some trivial but after thirty years in big business his books are on the mark and this one is no different. He gives you a step by step guide to dealing with your business or your life. His focus with this book is when things have gone bad and you want to come back and his 21 steps will bring you back ... good work and straight forward. Loved it.

Another Winner by Brian Tracy!,
This review is from: Crunch Point: The 21 Secrets to Succeeding When It Matters Most (Hardcover)
Brian Tracy continues to amaze me! In this new book, Brian Tracy encompasses 2000 years of wisdom and makes it available in only 110 pages! Simple, brief and to the point. Power packed.
In Crunch Point you will learn how to: * Stay calm in any crisis * Draw on your inner strength * Get the fact before you respond * Cut your losses * Focus on key priorities * Concentrate on the vital issues * Communicate with the key people * Unlock your inborn creativity * Focus on cash flow * Connect with your inner powers * Never give up, no matter what On the surface, this appears to be a book for entrepreneurs, business people, sales people and perhaps network marketers. It is in fact for all of those and also for everyone facing difficulties today. It will become especially vital if the democrats regain power. Then we can expect a real crunch with higher taxes, job losses, gutting the military, reduced national security and more. Just an observation. Great book by Brian Tracy. Don't judge it by it's size. Brevity is power. Remember Lincoln's Gettysburg address which lasted only 15 minutes? Does anybody even remember the other speaker who spoke for over an hour? I rest my case! |
