Customer Reviews

I would recommend this to any and every 1L.

The E&E's were the same as these books for me, Civ Pro and Torts were great, Crim Law and Contracts did not add much to my study preparation.
heather
The book breaks down everything in a manner that is very easily understood.

The Crunchtime books can be a great asset for exam prep. Each book includes flow charts (which can be very helpful and are likely unlike anything you have seen in class), summaries of each topics, exam tips for each product including what is most commonly tested and what to say about a topic if tested, multiple choice questions and answers, short answer questions and answers, and essay questions and answers. I would recommended using this during the last week prior to the exam. It reinforces what you know and gives you great practice in answering exam questions.

Although they have great information, they will not correlate with every professor's class. In my experience, the Torts Crunchtime was invaluable and likely made a huge difference in my grade (especially recommended if your Torts professor includes any type of multiple choice on the exam). The Civ Pro Crunchtime was helpful, especially if there was any confusion on a particular topic. Due SOLELY to the difference in my professor's teaching methods and the info in these books, the Contracts and Crim Law Crunchtime books were not helpful to me. The material differed too much from the books (everything was accurate, however, my professor's gave certain topics a lot of weight and they were barely glazed over in the book). The helpfulness of these books depend on how they correlate to your class. If they do, there is no better resource for exam prep!

Also, the only other study aid I purchased was the Examples and Explanations for each topic. They compliment the Crunchtime books well because they give you a more in depth, overall view of the topic, while Crunchtime focuses on last minute, helpful tips and answer practice. The E&E's were the same as these books for me, Civ Pro and Torts were great, Crim Law and Contracts did not add much to my study preparation.

I am not one to beat around the bush, therefore, I will tell you truthfully and forthrightly, this book should be used in conjunction to your class notes, outline, and possibly other study aids, although it is really the only aid you need. it does a fantastic job of putting things in a shortened, easy to understand manner, so that instead of continually losing the forest for the trees, all it does is show you the forest. this means that for the minutiae of detail that law professors want, you will need to make sure you have studied off of your class notes and your outline. However, this book will guarantee that you have a thorough understanding of the Erie doctrine, subject matter jurisdiction, and venue, and is an excellent tool to use to review. I used it when I was in Civil Procedure and it really helped me to be able to see the big picture. I highly recommend this as a study aid, but do not try to use it as your only study tool.

Here is an edited copy of the email that I sent to the publisher on August 26, 2012 (one month ago), for which they responded that they would look into the issue:
--------------------
I recently purchased the CrunchTime series for Torts, CivPro, Contracts, and Property (all of my first year courses) from Amazon for Kindle. I'm writing to you, the publisher, because I don't think Amazon has any control over how the material is displayed in Kindle, although this may be incorrect.

These books are great, and the reading material is excellent. HOWEVER, the flowcharts and general display of the various information on Kindle is terrible. As an example, I have [uploaded a picture to Amazon in the Civil Procedure review], which displays Figure 3-1. Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to zoom in on any of the figures, so their text size is automatically left for Kindle to decide how big it should be, and in many cases (such as in the attached image) the figures are ILLEGIBLE.

Do you know if there is there any way to zoom in on the images, so that they are clear? An example would be a typical PDF document, where the user can manipulate the page orientation (some of the figures are sideways, which is not helpful when viewing on a PC), and zoom in on certain areas of the page, while retaining clarity of text.

I wanted to write to you before I unfairly write an unfavorable review on Amazon for the product, stating my concerns identified above.

Some of the best information that is unique to the CrunchTime series is illegible on Kindle.

This book is necessary for studying for civil procedure. Everything is explained clearly and the flowcharts are extremely helpful, especially for take home exams.

I would recommend this to any and every 1L. I only wish I had learned about this book sooner rather than a week before my final. It's so compact and turns everything into plain english.

In my opinion this is the BEST study guide for Civil Procedure! The exam tips and example essays are very helpful and very close to what the professors ask on their exams. It breaks down the rules and jurisdiction as well. I would definitely recommend this to ALL 1Ls.
