History of war in the Pacific, March 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Crusade In The Pacific (World War 2 Pacific Islands Battle Documentary) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Crusade in the Pacific follows the format of Crusade in Europe, a bare bones documentary of the wars in the Pacific from 1931 to Korea, set in the years immediately following WWII (the credits show Copyright Time, Inc 1951.) Extensive newsreel film, military source film, and captured film provide a look at the fighting from both the Allied and Axis point of view. While not as dramatically scored as the Victory at Sea series, there is contemporary (1951) music to bolster the sounds of battle and the commentary. The six tapes have two episodes each, and allow the viewer to divide viewing into segments. The leadin credits are for Regal Beer, who sponsored the presentation of the series, then brewed in New Orleans, providing insight into an era in our history when such products were a more accepted part of the culture. This series would be a valuable addition to a collection of tapes dealing with WWII, able to convey the sights, smells, and sounds of that conflict, while they were still fresh in the minds of participants.
