Possibly the best debut ever for a band nobody knows about., September 21, 2004
This review is from: Crush 40 (Audio CD)
Crush 40. They made the music for Sonic Adventure, Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes. It was great and all, but what about other songs? Their fantastic self-titled debut is completely gorgeous and good to the ears, even though it is hard-rock. The singer has one of the best voices I have ever heard.
There are some songs here that need no explanation. The fast-paced Open Your Heart, Live and Learn, It Doesn't Matter and Escape from the City were on the Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 soundtracks. That doesn't mean they don't have other music here. Some of their lighter songs, like "Watch me Fly", "All the Way" and "Into The Wind" have heavy riffs, but the singer sings in a light voice and makes it sound very nice.
The other tracks, "Revvin' Up", "In the Lead", and "Dangerous Ground" are heavy songs that wil satisfy Sonic Adventure fans along with hard-rock fans and metal-heads. To say something, this CD has something for everyone. People who like:
Classic rock - Watch me Fly, All the Way, Into the Wind
Hard-rock - Open Your Heart, Live and Learn, In The Lead, Escape from the City, Dangerous Ground, Revvin' Up, All the Way, Fuel Me
Sonic Fans - Open Your Heart, Live and Learn, Escape from the City, Open Your Heart
They even mix in a little funk into their music, which makes them sound all the more masterful. If this band ever becomes mainstream and people all over get to like them, they are going to have a fantastic career. They would be the revival of hard-rock. If only Amazon.com had samples - everyone would buy this CD. I would buy it. Also recommended - Hardline, Metallica and Dream Theater.

This CD is a masterpiece!, August 18, 2004
This review is from: Crush 40 (Audio CD)
I just bought this today at Fye, and I have got to say - this work is a complete masterpiece. Unbelievable songs. You do NOT jave to be a Sonic fan to like this music. But if you know a little about Sonic, it makes it even funner. Here's a review of all the tracks.
1. Live And Learn - 20/10!!! [FANTASTIC! One of the best on the CD!]
2. Revvin Up - 8/10 [Good song, one of the average ones on the CD]
3. Into the Wind - 7/10 [Okay song, but needs better vocals and faster guitar]
4. In The Lead - 12/10!!! [Great! A fantastic song!]
5. Watch Me Fly - 7/10 [Okay, but like Into The Wind, needs better vocals/guitar]
6. Fuel Me - 8/10 [Good song. Very solid.]
7. Dangerous Ground - 7/10 [Cool song, but it's short]
8. All The Way - 8/10 [Not loud enough, but has a great beat]
9. Open Your Heart - 25/10!!!!! [This is the best song on the CD. FANTASTIC first song by Crush 40!]
10. It Doesn't Matter - 10/10! [GREAT song, Sonic's theme in Sonic Adventure/DX]
11. Escape From The City - 12/10!!! [Another great song. It keeps getting better. AND AFTER THIS, THERE'S NO MORE *sob*]
TOTAL SCORE: 123/110 [A+++]
This is one of the best CDs I own. A complete masterpiece. If you're into heavy rock, you'll love this CD. I don't care if you hate rock. You have to buy this CD. If you're a Sonic fan, you gotta buy this CD. If you're ANTI SONIC, you gotta buy this CD. It's just so good. Not many people heard of this underrated group, but soon my friends...soon.

Good high-energy rock, February 3, 2007
This review is from: Crush 40 (Audio CD)
This CD is a nice collection of high-energy (with maybe one exception) rock songs with (gasp!) a positive message. Sure, some of the lyrics are about car racing, and the songs were made for video games, but so what? The guitar work (Jun Senoue) is good, the vocals (Johnny Gioeli) are good, the backing instrumentation and vocals are adequate, all of which makes for an enjoyable listen. Most of the music here is fast with somewhat of a metal influence, but is positive and uplifting - none of that doom and gloom, angst-ridden BS here! The best songs, in my opinion, are "Revvin Up", "In the Lead", and "All the Way"; other highlights are "Live & Learn", "Into the Wind", and "Dangerous Ground." If these songs don't get you moving, then you are dead from the neck up! Hey, I want to thank those of you who wrote negative reviews for giving me a good laugh; you clowns are a real hoot! Saying "the guitar player sucks" does not constitute a review. (Look up "constitute" in the dictionary, kiddies - it starts with a "c".) Lose your preconceived notions, open your narrow minds, think outside the box for once, and enjoy the music!
