I made my 8th grade earth science students buy and read this book every year until it went out of print. It's easy to read, doesn't require a degree in geology to understand, and its chapters are mostly 2 pages long with simple, to-the-point illustrations. Each chapter features some place of geologic interest around the world--Grand Canyon, Vesuvius, Krakatoa, San Francisco, Hawaii, Iceland, Mt. St. Helens, etc. I keep hoping it'll come back into print.
