5.0 out of 5 stars We love being bad cause it feels so good
This is a great soundtrack from a great movie. Half of the songs are "oldies" and the other half are new songs recorded for the movie. Some of the new songs are covers of old songs and some are new compositions. They all wonderfully capture the feel of early to mid '50s music. Why do they do this? They take an outstanding movie with outstanding songs and then leave some of the best ones off the soundtrack. This is so infuriating! The song "Gee" by the Crows was so integral to the movie they gave that scene over two minutes, yet it was left off the soundtrack. To make matters worse, not only was "The Naughty Lady of Shady...

This is a great soundtrack from a great movie. Half of the songs are "oldies" and the other half are new songs recorded for the movie. Some of the new songs are covers of old songs and some are new compositions. They all wonderfully capture the feel of early to mid '50s music. The songs are in a nice variety of styles, including corny pop, doo wop, rockabilly and r & b. As for the "oldies" included here, they are terrific. They are great songs that are not very well known. These aren't the same old songs that you hear on oldies stations every day. Songs like "Nosey Joe", "Bad Boy", "I'm So Young" and "Rubber Biscuit" should have been hits back in the day, but they weren't. Now these great rare songs are available for your listening pleasure. See the movie, then buy the album.

The USA cable network version of the movie has a few extra scenes, including two extra songs, "Chicken" and "The Naughty Lady of Shady Lane" and "Lay That Pistol Down" dance number.

4.0 out of 5 stars Missing tracks, July 26, 2005
This review is from: Cry Baby: Original Soundtrack Album (Audio CD)
This is a great movie, there are a few great songs that didn't make the soundtrack. One is 'Cadillacs and Women' by Doc Stark, and one that people keep thinking is "love that girl", its actually called 'Gee' by the 'Crows'. I hope that helps.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's good, but a little different..., October 8, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cry Baby: Original Soundtrack Album (Audio CD)
I finally got the soundtrack off of Amazon.com and it is truly a great soundtrack. The songs are a little different from the movie versions, though,(for example, I don't like the album version of the "Doin' Time for Being Young" song as much as the movie version). You can really tell it's not the actors' voices, but it's enjoyable nonetheless. If you're a big fan of the movie, I'd get the soundtrack.

5.0 out of 5 stars KING CRY BABY, February 19, 2004
This review is from: Cry Baby: Original Soundtrack Album (Audio CD)
I love every single part of this movie. But I have to say, my favorite song on all this is the "King Cry baby" song. I found out what the real title for "Love that Girl" is, its "Gee" by The Crows, IM sad to see thats not on the album, oh well. Its a great soundtrack all together. A must buy for any Cry Baby fan. :) Enjoy!!!

The song "Gee" by the Crows was so integral to the movie they gave that scene over two minutes, yet it was left off the soundtrack. To make matters worse, not only was "The Naughty Lady of Shady Lane" by the Whiffles left off the soudtrack, it was cut from the released version of the movie. This was by far the best version I have ever heard of this song. Thank God the USA station includes it in their version. This is why I only give this soundtrack three instead of five stars. Can you imagine "American Graffiti" with half of its songs missing? Simply criminal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun soundtrack, August 8, 2005
This review is from: Cry Baby: Original Soundtrack Album (Audio CD)
This is one of my favorite soundtracks! The first half of the CD is much better than the second half, but that's because the first several songs are all actually sung in the movie. I LOVE "Please, Mr. Jailer"...it's a really sexy song, and fun to listen to. This soundtrack is filled with great 50s songs. It is tons of fun.

The only thing I'm a little disappointed with is that two songs on the soundtrack differ from the movie versions. "Doin Time for Bein Young" is a completely different version...they took out the background singers (the other jailbirds that accompanied Cry Baby in the movie...you know-they're the ones who shout, "stinkin tank! stinkin tank!"), and James Intveld's (the singing voice of Cry Baby) singing is also different in this song. In the movie, the voice is yelling more than singing, but not on the CD. I liked it in the movie better, since it seemed more realistic that Johnny Depp was actually singing, but it's still good. Also, "Mr. Sandman" is different. It's hard to describe what the differences are, but they are definitely there. In parts, I think it is sung an octave higher, but who knows.

Aside from these differences, this soundtrack is awesome. If the movie made you jump out of your seat and dance, then you gotta get this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars He's the King!, November 27, 2005
This review is from: Cry Baby: Original Soundtrack Album (Audio CD)
After his success with the dance musical Hairspray, John Waters kept the beat going with his singing musical Cry-Baby. Waters, a longtime Elvis fan, wanted to make a genre parody of Elvis and juvenile delinquent movies. To create the character of Cry-Baby, he used the acting talents of young Johnny Depp (setting Depp on his career path of unusual roles) and the singing talents of rockabilly singer James Intveld. Alison similarly paired Amy Locane's acting with Hairspray veteran Rachel Sweet's singing. Cry-Baby's soundtrack is a fun, catchy collection of new rockabilly ("King Cry-Baby," "High School Hellcats"), sexy ballads ("Please, Mr. Jailer") and 50s novelty songs ("Rubber Biscuit") that any Drape would trade a set of hubcaps for.

5.0 out of 5 stars King Crybaby, January 23, 2004

I love this movie. The musical parts really stand out. It never ever gets corny. My favorite song is "Doing Time for being young" I love watching Johnny dance to that. Go Johnny Go!
