This review is from: The Cry of the Crow (Paperback)
The Cry of the Crow is about a 12 year old girl. She finds a crow who's parents have been shot. The girl names the crow Nina and raises it. The crow bonds on the girl as her mother. Nina becomes incredibly intelligent and can immitate people. When the raising of the crow gets involved with her other life, a heartbreaking decision has to be made. Read this book to find out more. I rate this book 11 out of 10, and think you should read it if you enjoy funny but sad stories.

In my veiw this book by Jean Craighead Georgeis very great. Every chapter of the book adds more action to the story. This is a great story for education and enjoyment. This story is about a family with one daughter and three sons. The girl finds a crow and keeps it as a pet. Many problems occur from this crow. This crow is very unique. This story gets better and better by the chapter. This book is very exciting and fun to read.

What I thought of the book,

This review is from: The Cry of the Crow (Paperback)
The cry of the crow, by Jean Craighead George, didnt really catch my attention in the beginning of the book. For the first few chapters it was kind of slow and not too exciting. Basicly it wasnt the kind of book that I was used to reading. However, after a while into the book, I started to like it. Even though it was still slow, I enjoyed the story about how she raised and kept the baby crow to herself with almost no help. Although the ending was a bit sad, i liked it. I recomend this book to anyone who would like to enjoy an unforgetable story.

I thought this book was terrible.,

This review is from: The Cry of the Crow (Paperback)
This book had hardly any action in it, exept for near the end. In every chapter, I wanted to stop reading the book. Everybody does not have the same opinion as I, so I would say that people that don't like a lot of action in books, I'd say read Cry of the Crow. If you like books with a lot of action and suspense, I'd say don't read it because you will want to stop reading it in every chapter. I, myself would give this book a poor rating.

A Beautiful Story about a Young Girl and Her Pet Crow!,
This review is from: The Cry of the Crow (Paperback)
Jean Craighead George is obviously an animal lover. This book is about a young girl who takes in a baby crow after her crow parents have died or have been murdered. At first, she's weary but she becomes the crow's mother figure in her mind. The story takes place in the Florida Everglades. It's well-written with passion and details by the author. The crow's named Nina Terrance by her new human mother. It's a story with a tragic twist and ending. There is the main argument about taming wild animals into domesticity. The crow is torn between the human world and it's own species. I only deducted one star because I wasn't happy with the sad ending. I felt like it needed to be a conclusion or an epilogue. I don't like it when the authors just leave us hanging.

My 7 year old daughter says, "I like this book because it is very good and I like how it has a good part in the beginning and a sad part in the end. There is also a surprise about Mandy."

Fascinating, but watch out for the end,

I just finished reading this to my 6-year-old daughter. She really enjoyed the story, and learned a great deal about crows. But we were both caught offguard by the closing pages, in which Mandy comes to terms with the consequences of raising a wild crow. Jean Craighead George makes it clear what actions led to this final drama, but it was still a bit of a shock.
I wouldn't go so far as to say it is inappropriate for younger readers, but parents should know the sorts of questions it will raise.

There is something so tender about this novel, kind of a "The Yearling" only with a girl and a crow. It's a gorgeous look at the natural world and animals, and also the look of a family.

Fly into adventure with the Crow,
A Kid's Review

@rianna
The age I would recommend for this book would be 10 or 11. This should be for 5th or at least 4th grade. Mandy is a little girl who lives the Piny Woods. She loves crows but her brothers and her father are trying to kill all the crows in the forest. The only crows who are still alive are the leader of the Trumpet Hammock crows, his name is Kray, and Nina Terrence, Mandy's pet crow. I found this book not that interesting. I felt like the part When Mandy gives Nina Terrence her food and she looks at Mandy with her eyes big and round. |
