5.0 out of 5 stars A Triumph of Spirit, July 31, 2010
By
This review is from: Cry Into the Wind: A True Story (Paperback)
My parents told me stories about how their families struggled during the Depression, but they led charmed lives compared to Othello Bach's. "Cry Into the Wind" gripped me from the first chapter and held me mesmerized until the end. It is inconceivable to me how anyone could experience all the horrifying things that Ms. Bach did and survive emotionally intact. But not only did she survive, she became a brilliant writer and gifted teacher with an amazing capacity for forgiveness and love. Ms. Bach's story is a powerful example of the human spirit at its finest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cry Into the Wind, October 31, 2011
This review is from: Cry Into the Wind: A True Story (Paperback)
I am an avid reader and this book is one of the best I have ever read. I started one day and finished the 385 pages the next day, I was not able to put the book down. It is beautifully written and so very interesting. Knowing that it is a true story only adds to my amazement. I would love to see other books picking up where this one ended.

Othello Bach had me in a firm, locked grip from the very first sentence of this book: "My brother, Don, says the first four years of my life were lived in the back of a flat bed truck." How could anyone NOT continue to read after that intriguing statement!?! "Cry Into the Wind" had me crying into the night at the physical and emotional abuse inflicted upon Othello, her sisters and brother by the administrators of church-supported orphanages. I laughed at some of her escapades and her ingenuity, and I cheered her on to succeed. My heart went out to her as she waited and waited for Mama to keep her promise and come home for Christmas when Mama had died from the burns sustained in the fire. Little Othello refused to accept her mother's death. Her story is inspiring and compelling. It will touch every emotion you've ever felt. Few survive such a gruesome childhood. Still fewer can actually put it all to paper and do so in such a masterful, wonderful way. Don't miss the opportunity to read Othello Bach's story.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing story, October 19, 2011
This review is from: Cry Into the Wind: A True Story (Paperback)
First it is an example of a well written story that pulls you quickly from page to page and testifies to the powerful writing skills and craft of the author.
In this book the story she is writing about is her life. It is a testimony to exceeding strength of character and of God's hand working strongly. We are allowed to stand witness with her as she looks back and recounts episodes and events that often times seem to painful or amazing for us to even watch.
But when you meet her and look at her through the eyes of this story you feel at a loss to be able to explain the wonderful, vibrant person you are speaking with. This is a writing that you will not be able to forget and will be long uplifted by it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put it down..., May 4, 2011
This review is from: Cry Into the Wind: A True Story (Paperback)
Othello and I did four kid's books together and I knew she was funny and creative. When she told me of this memoir I expected humor, but instead it was powerfully and tragically serious. I practically read it one sitting and couldn't put it down. I wondered how she had survived, much less how she retained her sense of humor. This book should be an inspiration to people who have survived wounded childhoods that they may know they can come out on top.

Unbelievable true story as I would recommend this book for anyone who wants to appreciate and respect life this moment and to the fullest.

Before I read the book I thought the title "Cry Into the Wind" was about a victim story that draws attention through sensationalism. Little did I know that it was taking what so (such as pain), what stories we bring from it as a child and how we project those real traumas into everyday adult lives. This book gets right into unimaginable traumas and transcends into victories. It is more than keeping a chin up approach but living through full integrity as an adult in despite of circumstances of past gut wrenching experiences.

Reading this book allowed me to watch my own past concerns and ego fade knowing what ones person endurance brings new appreciation with life and people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cry into the Wind, July 30, 2009
This review is from: Cry Into the Wind: A True Story (Paperback)
I was lucky enough to hear Othello Bach speak at the local library and bought a signed copy of her autobiography, Cry into the Wind. I began reading it that evening and could not put it down. Anyone who believes he or she has a rough go in life should read this book. A beautiful little girl experiences unbelieveable tragedy, abuse, and abandonment and survives on sheer will and a constant belief that life has more to offer. Everyone has a reason to read this book. It should be read often and kept for generations to come. It is truly the best book I have ever read.

I had the privilege of listening to Othello speak in a small group at our public library. All I can say is AMAZING! I quickly purchased her book and was drawn to it. As a teacher of small children, I am always in awe of their ability to aim high in spite of their obstacles. Othello broke the cycle of abuse in her family and far exceeded the expectations of her childhood. This is a book you won't be able to put down.
