My Christian friend Craig Sather lent me this book in early 2005, and I found many of the words very comforting.

From Proverbs 28:27

"Give to the poor and your will never be in need. If you close your eyes to teh poor, many people will curse you." that kind of sums up what the book is all about.

From John 3:18

"My children, our love should not just be words and talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action."

Thanks Craig for your spiritual thoughtfulness.

Most of us know that Jesus said the Bible's two most important - and nearly identical - teachings were (1) to love God and (2) to love our "neighbors." Sider shows through a selection of Scriptures that those "neighbors" mean everyone from our families to people living on the other. It's a small book, but well organized and makes very a strong point. And it raises an even stronger one: Are we living that command? In far too many cases, the answer is "no." Will we be judged for that? Unfortunately, here the answer is a very strong "yes."

I heard a preacher recommend this book, so I bought it. It's not as compelling to me as perhaps other books, but it could just be my personal prejudices at work.
