From the Publisher

In this gripping, and powerful inspirational story, Janet Alston Jackson rips the veil off Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD), a children's emotional condition that evolves when a child cannot bond or trust a caretaker, and refuses to submit to authority. Sharing the process of mindfulness-based-stress management (how to live in the moment), Jackson grabs reader's hearts as she tries to heal her broken heart, moves on with her life, and at last regains her detached, adopted son.

5.0 out of 5 stars A story of great courage and honesty, April 26, 2006
By
This review is from: A Cry for Light: A Journey into Love (Paperback)
A well-paced and inspiring account of one family's experience of dealing with their adopted son's challenges with Reactive Attachment Disorder that pushes them all to the breaking point.

The author engages the reader with great courage and honesty as she pursues a seemingly never-ending quest for answers to help her young son and her family. Truly an enlightening journey into the world of adopting children with severe chemical and psychological imbalances, but also a story of strength, tenacity and self-awareness from a parent that ultimately learns to rely on her own inner wisdom and guidance. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars inspirational, captivating, and a great read for therapists, April 14, 2006
This review is from: A Cry for Light: A Journey into Love (Paperback)
I am a psychiatric social worker who works with children with emotional and behavioral problems. I was thoroughly captivated by this book and found it hard to put down. The author's perseverence in seeking help for her son was inspirational. I think this book is a great resource for therapists (also parents, teachers and others who work with children) and will help them to gain an insiders view of what it is like for the families of children with such challenging emotions and behavior and the desperate search for help. I plan to recommend it to my colleagues.
