Using unique voices for Emme, Chloe, and Emme's colleagues, Bean constructs appealing characters with memorable personalities. She maintains the story's suspense as Emme discovers clues that uncover the kidnapper's identity. A measured quality to Bean's narration makes it sometimes stiff, and pauses between speakers of dialogue cause the story slow in places. For romantic suspense listeners, a solid story combined with consistent narration makes this a worthwhile performance as a stand-alone or as part of the series.
