4.0 out of 5 stars Great Series
I absolutely love this series, although I didn't think this book was as good as the first one.

I received the book and discovered that it was large print. So that was quite distracting when I read the book. Otherwise, it was good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Series, May 29, 2009
I absolutely love this series, although I didn't think this book was as good as the first one.

Too many things didn't sit right with me, the most being that Mallory was so suspicious of Emme/Ann right from the start, but she hired her anyway, mainly because the other characters didn't seem to take her concerns seriously. It just wasn't plausible that someone like Robert Magellan would turn the hiring and administration of this new foundation over to someone and then brush them off when they expressed legitimate concerns about a potential hire, especially because there were hundreds of other resumes sitting on her desk. And it was even less plausible that Emme/Ann would lie and deceive, show up at an interview with her daughter, still get the job and then think nothing of getting involved with the person who hired them. One would expect her to have a bit more professionalism and to tread much more lightly considering the thin line she was walking to begin with.

The character of Nick also didn't sit well with me because it seemed like he was more interested in getting into Emme/Ann's pants than in finding his niece, which made it a bit hard to really care about the case. Add that to the fact that it became apparent early who the culprit was, and this book just wasn't as good as "Mercy Street."

However, I do look forward to more books in this series, especially now that Susanna's work is done and there's a whole new in-house mystery to work with.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Mercy Street Foundation has officially opened its door., April 30, 2009
California cop Ann Nolan learns that her adopted daughter, Chloe, is being searched for by her biological father. Anthony Navarro is a big time drug lord and has a large reward out for Chloe. Fearing her daughter will be kidnapped, Ann changes her name to Emme Caldwell and flees across the country to begin a new life as an investigator for the Mercy Street Foundation (MSF) in Conroy, Pennsylvania. Emme's first case is to find nineteen-year-old Belinda "Belle" Hudson who disappeared from her sorority house. Debra Newhouse, can only tell Emme that Belle had not taken her computer with her but it vanished shortly afterward.

Nick Perone restores classic automobiles. He is grateful when MSF accepts locating his niece as their first official case. Belle had been communicating on a forum board with her donor-siblings. These are other people born by the same sperm donor from a fertility clinic. Belle had been trying to learn who her biological father is, Donor 1735. Emme and Nick's search for Belle will lead them to a serial killer that may very well be as dangerous as Navarro.

***** The Mercy Street Foundation has officially opened its doors and this new series has officially begun. There is more than one secondary plot running in the background. They will spill over into future novels. The main focus in this installment is Emme and Chloe getting settled with the foundation and solving the first case. It is obvious the author did a lot of research for this story. I am amazed at how much I learned about fertility clinics and donor-siblings. An exciting story that successfully solidifies a strong foundation for the series. (No pun or tongue twister intended.) *****

The Mercy series is my first experience with this author. I have enjoyed the first 2 books in the series and look forward to getting the 3rd book. There is enough action to keep the reader engaged. I will definitely keep this author on my radar in the future.

1.0 out of 5 stars Give us mercy instead of romantic dribble, March 16, 2011
By
R. Greenwood (Marysville,CA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Mariah Stewart is purely a romance writer and she has returned to her roots with this series and don't let any other review tell you otherwise. These books are not about the suspense nor any thrill, but rather about building the sexual tension between the two main characters in each of these books. As with her first entry in the Romantic Suspense genre, Stewart tries really hard to convince you that this isn't what it appears to be. But by the last 100 pages of each of these novels when a very explicit sex scene takes place, it leaves no doubt that Stewart has placed her emphasis on the sex rather than the suspense. In short, these books are romance novels and they should also have a warning to indicate that they contain explicit sexual content. If you think that this assessment is not true, I challenge you to turn to about the last 100 pages in each of these novels where ridiculous romantic liaisons take place in the backseat of a car, the shower, and the most explicit outdoors on a deck. The mercy series will leave you crying for mercy and I believe that you are a socially repressed and stunted individual if you have to find your romance between the pages of these books than with your loved one. Save your money and find a real suspense novel to read...

3.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable, December 31, 2009
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book was not as interesting as "Mercy Street." And it was unbelievable. Are we to believe that a businessman like Robert Magellan would hire someone on the spot like he did Ann/Emme who had just picked up and driven across country without a place to live? And Nick was never believable to me. He went to all the trouble to ask Mercy Street to help find his niece who we didn't seem to have much interest in. He didn't seem to be very upset that his neice had disappeared. And that fling with Emme at the farm, out in the open, was a bit of a stretch. Of course, Emme has known Nick about a week and knows this is the man she has been looking for??? Pleeeeese. After Nick found out that Belinda was dead, he didn't seem to grieve very much.

I liked Mallory in "Mercy Street" bur she was a bit of a bitch in this one. She was grouchy the entire book. And I missed her interaction with Charlie.

It seems rather far-fetched that with all of Robert's money and resources, no one came upon the wreckage of his wife's car and that Susanna could find it after two years. Just another unbelievable aspect of this book.

Really liked "Cry Mercy" but this one didn't do it for me. Hope the next one is better.
