Book Description

April 1996
The beautiful young woman thought she was finally free - her abusive father was long dead, she was married to a handsome, loving man and she had just given birth to a beautiful baby boy. Then the terrors began again...this time in her own mind. Haunted night and day by the agonizing memories of her poverty-stricken childhood and brutal torture at the hands of her father, she lashed out at her husband and was petrified to touch her own child for fear that she would harm him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Story of Courage and Survival, March 19, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: A Cry in the Night (Paperback)
I had never heard of Jean Small Brinson until I picked up this book at the UNL bookstore. I read it in one day! If you or anyone you know has ever had to deal with an abusive family member, this is a must read. Brinson tells of her abusive father, her escapes with her mother, how she had to beat her mother in order to save her, and she also tells of her development of MPD. This book made me angry, it made me hurt, it made me cry, but most importantly it made me remember my own experiences. It let me know that I was not the only person out there who had experienced pain, hatred, and abuse of all kinds. Again, this is a must read.

I ordered this book to read for my abnormal psychology class. I picked it because I wanted to learn more about Multiple Personality Disorder. The book was sad and some points and made me want to cry. It was very imformative on the disease and it helped me to understand it a little better. Overall the book was really good and I would recommend it to other to read.
