Disappointed,

Normally I love books on shifters and was eager to start this one. And though the author had some intriguing ideas about werewolf culture, the book had one fatal flaw that I couldn't over look: artificial conflict.
I can't stand it when the conflict in a story only comes as a result of the characters making stupid choices and putting themselves in unnecessary danger. After promising multiple times not to put herself in danger, the heroine does exactly that the very first chance she gets, and willingly gives herself to the bad guys. Plus, I don't think it was explained well enough about why the heroine was changed in the first place or why the bad guys wanted her so much. And the relationship between the two main characters progressed too quickly and unbelievably for me. I found myself doing a lot of skimming while reading and ultimately gave up before the end. I gave the book 2 stars for the interesting bits of world building at the beginning. I really, really wanted to like this book (and the hero had an interesting back story). But I just couldn't get invested in the story enough to really feel connected to the characters or worry when they were in danger.

Absolute Must Read,
By Theresa "Ebook Addict Reviews" (Clarksville, TN.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cry Sanctuary: Red Rock Pass, book 1 (Kindle Edition)
This is a great book gets one of my highest must buy and read right now recommendations.
I am VERY picky about my shape shifter and or vampire books having started by reading Susan Sizemore vampire and Laurel K. Hamilton vampire and shape shifter books, I am quite picky about who's I read, I won't read just anyone and I can honestly tell you that Moira Rogers Red Rock Pass series will be on my *Buy the day of release* list. Abby turned against her will has come to Red Rock Pass for sanctuary from the alpha who had her attacked. Only having went through one moon change Abby is still a new wolf and very unsure of herself. Meeting Keith and the attraction between them has her even more unsure of thing. I hate wimpy heroines and believe me Abby does not qualify very much an alpha, so not just any man will do for this wolf, the instant chemistry between Abby and Keith is quite explosive. I love to watch a good man fall in love - Keith is no exception when he falls he falls hard and their isn't anything he wouldn't do for his woman even defy his own alpha to protect her. Your going to want to read this book right away just to see what happens between Keith and Abby. So run don't walk and buy your copy today!! Theresa

Keith and Abigail are an interesting leading couple. Both are alpha's (this is not typical for many paranormal/werewolf/vampire type books I've read) and strong. A leading lady that is strong but not hard and sarcastic is a welcome change for me. At first I thought Abby very smart - then she makes a choice I did not feel was in character for her and her strength sort of fizzles.
I felt that the concept of a guide was good - that a new werewolf needed someone to help him/her control the wolf and learn about the community. Surprisingly that part did not seem rushed to me - I was fine with it. I thought the sex scenes were fine - they don't overwhelm the story nor do they seem contrived just for their own sake. What this book needed is about another 50-100 pages. Its true you hit the ground running but it leaves you with a quizzical bewildered viewpoint that just never really goes away. Too many unanswered questions. It needed backstory as to why the bad guy would turn Abigail, what he stood to gain from it, and why he so desperately seems to want her back. And her own backstory is flimsy - you just don't really feel her at all. Although there is some explanation of the politics of the shifter world it needed to be more in depth - as we are told repeatedly that there are bad alpha's and good alpha's and the good are becoming more and more scarce. I was very intruiged with that storyline and wanted a lot more depth and explanation of it - especially as the Main alpha Gavin didn't seem to have a ton of contact with other "old school" alpha's. It seems as if the story is going to devolve into an us vs. them...if so we need to be more connected to the "us" so we want to win against the "them". The werewolf/witch war also needed a bit of backstory - again another intriguing concept that gets barely a scarce mention and a very brief exposition. It would have been a much stronger book if we would have experienced Keith in combat - as it is we are just told. And that was my main problem with the novel - we are just told too much. It definitely had the feel of a series set up - the elements are all here they just don't fit into the puzzle as nicely as they could have. It has a very superficial feel. Like you are scratching the surface only and there is much below. It needed more fleshing out. However it is a quick read (very quick - all told less than an hour for me) and the characters are likable enough. It has great potential to develop into a wonderful series with more depth. I will be picking the other books up to read on my Kindle.

I think I might have enjoyed this a bit more than some of the other reviewers, but it wasn't anything new or impressive. It read a little more like a novella than a full on novel as there were parts that seemed thrown together and pieces skimmed over.
If you are looking for a little paranormal romance that is solid and reliable, then this is for you. The characters weren't fully developed, but you got the general idea who they were. Part of this was the need to set up a bit of a backdrop for future stories, I think. I found Ms. Rogers depiction of pack rules to be interesting and LOVED the touch that the heroine was a strong wolf, but because of her circumstances didn't know what the heck was going on. It was light, funny and romantic. There were one or two plot points that left our characters making silly decisions and that was a bit annoying. And the sequence of events wasn't exactly surprising- no twists, turns or cliffhangers here. BUT! If you can overlook that and just focus on the fun stuff, you will enjoy this.

If you are into werewolves then this one is for you! Keith and Abby's story is one that had to be told. This story does build a strong Alpha male into someone I would want for myself, but left me a tad disappointed with the Alpha female. Her struggles to be as strong as she should didn't ruin the overall effect of the story line, yet having read the entire series I was glad to see that Moira Roger's wasn't done with this female character. I truly enjoyed this and would recommend this one as definite summer reading!

The story follows two main characters and some good side ones. Keith is struggling to come to terms with a past he doesn't like. Abigail has been forced into a world she didn't know existed while her friend Dylan trying to accept that there are better packs out there than the one he was in. You meet two Alphas that are awesome people and one that sucks. There are plenty of struggles, lust, love, and comradeship to learn to love these well written characters. The action is well described and nail biting in a few spots. The ending leaves satisfied enough but with some questions unanswered to keep you wanting more. There are plenty of paths that this story can take and it will be a great series to continue.
The story was definitely well written with great characters that are believable and easy to understand. The only negative I can really say is that there were plenty of instances where the writer kept saying she (Abigail) just doesn't understand this or that, and then offers no explanation. So, I kept reading "She just doesn't know or understand...", and I kept thinking no crap - could you explain it?!? Never really got that many answers though - which I suppose is why it's a series and they need to do that so you'll get the other books. It was a good read and I would recommend it.

Must read for werewolf groupies!,

To sum up my feelings for this book in one word would be Wow! Bree and Donna, the ladies that make up the persona known as Moira Rogers, have managed to create some of the hottest alpha males I've ever encountered. Keith Winston won my heart the moment he was introduced. He has just recently returned from fighting the war between werewolves and wizards. While trying to recover from years spent in battle he has Abigail Adler suddenly thrown into his life.
Abby is a new wolf who is trying to escape her abusive pack leader. Things between Abby and Keith heat up immediately. I'll just say the hotel scene that takes place between these two lovely wolves early in the book is one I could (and did!) read over and over. Keith is seriously dreamy and Abby reaches a level of badass I can't help but to covet. This book has romance, action, an irresistible hero, and an unflinching heroine. Oh and I can't forget the steamy scenes involving previously mentioned hero and heroine. The Red Rock Pass series is definitely worthy of a spot on my list of favorites.

I loved this story. The world that the authors created is great. I love Abby and Keith. They are both strong leads to this story and you get to keep up with them in the following stories. Be sure to check out the authors website for some free short stories surrounding Red Rock Pass.

False pretenses,

First off the book is rather well written. At times (mostly the action scenes (all 2 of them)) it was a little hard to follow, but it was a rather simplistic read. My issue with the book is the pretense of involving "werewolves" at all. It is really just a book about two people and love. That's fine and all, but don't try to add an element of fantasy that is simply not there in this book. It might come later in the series, but I will not read on to find out. I read the entire book to never actually have a werewolf involved in it but in name alone.
I was sorely disappointed with the story-line as a romantic novel, with little to no action. Had I ordered the book from amazon, and not simply on my kindle, I imagine the cover would have tipped me off, so shame on me. 1 star for being rather well written, 1 star for what I guess might be an engaging romantic novel, but I cannot verify that as its not my genre. I don't trash novels often, hence the 3 stars, but the book simply was not what the profile made it seem (at least while reading the bio on my kindle).

This book was well written. However, I read a lot of PNR and this one was "just ok." I couldn't really get into it and I never seemed to be able to relate with the characters.
