4.0 out of 5 stars Sad
When I ordered this book I wasn't expecting what I got. This book became increasingly horrific and it made me heartsick to realize that there are people moonlighting as "adults" that will hurt, rape, and torture children for kicks. This book was uncompromising in its approach and while I have to admit that this style of writing may not appeal to every reader..it brought...

2.0 out of 5 stars Sad story but very poor writing
I grew up in a similar situation as this young lad is supposed to have grown up in- only it wasn't my mother who was a monster but rather my father. I have great sympathy for the storyteller but I have to be honest and say that as a book, this piece of work is really substandard. It makes for very boring reading and serves only to create the "shock effect" from all of...

When I ordered this book I wasn't expecting what I got. This book became increasingly horrific and it made me heartsick to realize that there are people moonlighting as "adults" that will hurt, rape, and torture children for kicks. This book was uncompromising in its approach and while I have to admit that this style of writing may not appeal to every reader..it brought home the fact that most of the children that are brought to or held by pedophiles are done so through the hands of their own family (in most instances).

I applaud Joe Peters for coming out of this alive, and determined to pursue a better life IN SPITE of those that were determined to abuse him. His family and his abusers ought to be ashamed of themselves and the lives that they choose to lead...especially his birthmother..and I use the term as such because a real "mother" protects, nutures and loves and does not leaves a child defenseless, alone and able to be destroyed by herself and others because of some deficit in their own personality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heartwrenching!, June 19, 2010

Difficult reading about the atrocities visited on this poor child from the age of five. Unfortunately, this happens all too often to children. It's understandable, but it's too bad that charges weren't pressed against the perpetrators; perhaps some other children might have been spared torture by criminal, disgusting, sick adults. I can't understand the "review" by Bill W. of N.C. saying this book was "boring and poorly written" and that it should have been relegated to a magazine article. It was anything but boring and it took a book to tell the story and do it justice. The author never claimed to be a "writer"; he had a story to tell. A magazine article would have been totally inadequate. The "review" smacks of sour grapes.

5.0 out of 5 stars wow, February 5, 2009
This review is from: Cry Silent Tears (Paperback)
wow this book was so great. Its a sad story but I couldn't put it down I wanted to know what was going to happen next. I can't believe that children all over the world go through these kinds of situations all the time behind closed doors and no one knows or cares to know. Most of what happent to this kid could have been stopped if someone would been have brave enough to stand up for his rights.

I read this book in one sitting.I could not believe that any child could overcome such an abusive chidhood. Although it is a difficult read, I am pleased that I read it!I would recommend it to anyone.

I really liked the book A Child Called It. This books sounded similar so I decided to give it a chance. It was a great book. I read it in less than a week choosing reading over the T.V.. It was very sad though and graphic.

I recommend it to anyone!

4.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable, January 29, 2011
This review is from: Cry Silent Tears (Hardcover)
This story was difficult to read. How any human could mistreat a child in this way in almost unbelievable. So many people could have saved him, but no one did ANYTHING at all! That he survived to be a normal adult is amazing!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Riveting" Wow, January 18, 2011

Once I started reading; I couldn't stop. Joe Peter's story tears at the heart. How he survived his ordeal at the hands of family is beyond me. Once again authorities dropped the ball. How often does it have to happen before they wake up. Alarm bells should have sounded the minute they found out he hadn't been in school. Even as time went on they should have clued in that all was not right. To assume all was alright based on a Mother's sob story alone is unjustifiable.
I am now reading the second book "Cry Myself To Sleep" and find it as interesting as the first.
Be prepared as "Cry Silent Tears" is graphic in detail, but well worth the read.

5.0 out of 5 stars An emotional read, January 15, 2011
This review is from: Cry Silent Tears (Kindle Edition)
This book was eye opening and the first book I had ever read about child abuse. It was difficult to continue reading but hard to put down at the same time. My heart ached for this child and since I am a mother myself, I can not imagine how a mother can treat their own child with such hatred and brutality. The author really makes you feel like you are right there with him experiencing every emotion he is experiencing. At times I wished I could reach out and comfort this poor precious child. Although it is quite a disturbing book to read, I recommend it still because it helps to bring some awareness to such a serious problem.

This is the most horrifying book I've ever read. Horror fiction cant touch it. May his mother, older brothers and "uncles" burn in hell. May God Bless this man and his loved ones with forever happiness!

This is a very well written book --so well written, that you feel you are right there with this precious child. Just reading about the horrendous treatment of this child will break your heart. I can't imagine a mother being this cruel to her children. The adults in this child's life were unbelievable monstrosities. It is so amazing that he overcame all of this to become a great husband and dad. One of the best books I've read!
