5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, August 19, 2010
This review is from: Cry Wolf Broadcast (Audio CD)
I can't compare these guys to really anybody. Vocally or musically. If you want a good straight up in your face keep you guessing metal album, then this is it. It sucks that the band broke up this past year, but who knows maybe they will get back together. Just an all around good listening album from beginning to end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Somewhere Between Familiar and Foreign, October 27, 2008
This review is from: Cry Wolf Broadcast (Audio CD)
I first found My Hero is Me when I was bored at the record store wasting money with their EP Helen of Troy (from which the track Beautiful Mind was taken). At the time, their almost ADD music surprised me with constant changes in both style and time signature. I knew that they had something good to offer, but needed a bit of refinement to really drive home their unique sound.

I feel like Cry Wolf Broadcast has accomplished this - My Hero is Me doesn't let you settle into comfort as long as you'd ever like before they change direction again. But unlike Helen of Troy, you never find yourself just feeling lost. Their silly brand of humor is still present under the melting soundscape and break downs - I personally laughed the entire 7 minutes of 'I Studied Metal at Julliard'.

If more people were write reviews of this album, I imagine there would be lots of references to Bullet For My Valentine, Protest the Hero, From First to Last, and maybe some others. But I feel like this album can be referential to these artists without ever being derivative. Snobishness aside, it's a fun listen and definitely worth picking up - if only because I'd like to hear what's next from My Hero is Me.
