Book Description

May 2, 2006
Cry Yourself to Sleep explores the disappointments of early adulthood by following the lives of three unique characters: Jim, a minimum wage rabbit struggling to pay his rent; Andy, an aspiring novelist dealing with rejection; and The Robot, a machine who just wants to be a better man. In this stellar debut, Jeremy Tinder mixes sadness, sweetness and humor to tell a quirky little story of pride-swallowing, fake moustaches, car crashes and friendship.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

This is another of Top Shelf's positively diminutive books, like Jeffrey Brown's Every Girl Is the End of the World for Me (2006) and Max Estes' Hello, Again (2005), that ring more resonantly than such slight things should. It relates typical youthful failures by roommates Andy and Jim (a rabbit) and their neighbor, the Robot. Jim loses his fast-food job because of fur on the sandwiches (food-handlers' gloves don't work for him since he doesn't have fingers; his nonrabbit father thinks his attitude got him fired). Andy gets the manuscript of his novel returned without comment (his friend Nate the bear thinks it would've been accepted if Andy had written in Nate's mom and her hot flashes). The Robot, fed up with being "a souless [ sic ] machine," tries to learn to live authentically from a tweeting bird, which comes to smash when Jim needs rescuing. All three are devastated, but they survive. Life goes on. A minimalist fable as charming as can be. Ray Olson

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful little gem, April 15, 2007
This review is from: Cry Yourself To Sleep (Paperback)
this graphic novel is a very small collection of some very big issues. I love how simple the book is. I bought it at my local comic shop because i have a few extra bucks and i loed the cover image. The characters are painfully funny and their interactions with eachother even funnier. The realness of these silly beings is what makes the book relateable... love it. best on a whim purchase i've made in awhile.

I read this book after seeing a recommendation and I wasn't dissappointed. This sweet little book tells the events of three very unique characters and explores their struggles in life told in a very amusing style. I'm particularly fond of the art in the book: simple yet effective. Pick up this book and cry yourself to sleep with it!
