Pretty good but could have been something great,

This review is from: The Crying Girl (Avalon Mystery) (Hardcover)
I wanted very much to enjoy this book and I did to a point. The characters were fully developed and real, and the book started with a spooky scene that set the tone for the rest of the book. The problem was the ending; though not so much as it was rushed, the ending just kind of puttered out. Simply, it wasn't as well developed as the rest of the book.
At only 184 pages, Ebisch could have stretched his novel out for another 50/100 pages, and he should have resolved some of the minor story lines which were integral parts of the novel, story lines that he had begun so well. But without these being resolved, the novel felt unfinished and, dare I say, amateurish. I am going to read his second book in the series, Grave Justice, to see if, hopefully, he's done a better job with that one. |
