1.0 out of 5 stars Not the same as the real thing
I read somewhere that a vacuum or hairdryer could soothe a screaming baby. I was at my wit's end and tried both. My baby would stop crying as soon as I turn either on. The vacuum would even put him to sleep. However, living in an apartment complex with neighbors that go to bed early, I couldnt use these things at night. I saw this CD and figured it would be the...

5.0 out of 5 stars It's worked for both of my children, May 22, 2000

We heard about this CD on National Public Radio and bought it shortly it before our son was born. It sounded like a silly idea, but we found that it really did help to calm him and put him to sleep when nothing else would do the trick (i.e. bottle, change of diaper). We particularly got lots of mileage out of Track 4, the vaccuum cleaner. We'd typically just program our CD player to repeat this track a few times in row. A neighbor of ours told us that she actually wore out a real vaccuum cleaner by running it to calm her kids when they were babies. Obviously the CD approach is a little nicer here (and probably a little easier on the ears.) Now we are on our second child, and Track 4 is once again coming to our assistance!

Our son had some colic issues when he was young. From 6pm until about 4am he would be upset and crying. Everytime we got him to sleep he would be back up again in 15min. We started using a hair dryer and that seemed to work but was a fire hazard at the same time. We then got this CD - what a life saver! His favorite was the vacuum. We set up the CD to repeat on this track and he would settle right down to sleep. The sounds would really calm him down. We now buy this CD for all of our friends. We would never survived those initial months of colic without this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, August 27, 2006

This is a great CD! Each track fades up to full volume at the start and fades down to silence at the end. This makes it nice to just play the entire CD or to loop one track since there are no sharp changes from one noise to another. So far the Car and Washing machine tracks seem to be our baby's favorites. When she outgrows the need for this white noise CD, we'll transition her to lullaby or classical music. For now though, this CD helps us keep her on a schedule and well rested by helping keep her relaxed and usually asleep during her nap times. As a bonus, the Waves and Rain on the Roof tracks are soothing for grown-ups needing to drown out noise while they sleep.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD was magic, October 11, 2002

This CD was a godsend. We would swaddle our howling son in a receiving blanket, jump right to track 2 (wipers), and rock him in the rocking chair (we sometimes used a pacifier too). He would go from a screaming fit to calm sleep instantaneously. He doesn't need it anymore, but it really got us through the first two months.

I started using this cd to drown out outside annoyances,The next door neighbors dog,the little kids next door,The next door neighbor who is taking drumming lessons etc.(we love them, but they are a noisy bunch!)And I'll be darned it worked!!!!Jason (and myself) slept like babies! It is also great to take on trips, just bring the cd along and it gives that familiarity needed to keep the baby on track with sleeping patterns we so carefully try to stick with.We are ordering a new one after 2 years,we wore out the washing machine track(our personal fave!)Love it,Love it,Love it I give it 10,yes 10 stars!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank Heaven "For Crying Out Loud", April 17, 2000

This CD was the best thing we ever bought for our colicky 2 month old. All the money we spent on swings, mobiles, soothing vibrating seats, ect. doesn't even compare to this priceless CD. Before we had it we were running the vacuum cleaner constantly. If you have a fussy baby this CD is a must. It was great and helped us through a very difficult few months.

4.0 out of 5 stars So thankful for this CD!, November 3, 2005

Our 3 month old daughter has been battling colic for the past 2 months. When friends told me to try a hair dryer or vacuum cleaner, I thought they were insane! One night, we were at our wit's end and tried the hair dryer. She IMMEDIATELY stopped crying. This was great--however, I did not like having a hair dryer running non-stop for fear that it would ruin the dryer or possibly cause a fire! This CD has been a solution to our problem. I put the hair dryer track on repeat, and as annoying as it can be to an adult, it seems to truly soothe our baby. The vacuum track helped as well (the others didn't work as well for our baby). This CD is a must for PARENTS suffering through colic with their baby.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the greatest thing ever., August 14, 2005

The first night we used this -- when my son was 6 weeks old -- we put it on the womb sounds track & he slept SIX HOURS. This was a miracle at the time, and he just got progressively better and better. We played the womb sounds track all night long for his first year, then switched over to the track that sounds like a rushing stream. Whether or not you consider this developmentally-needed by baby's brain, this white noise "music" covers the rest of the noises in our small house, so we don't have to worry about being quiet after our now-two year old goes to sleep. Now he asks for his "night night music" every evening as we are getting ready for bed. (But he also has no trouble sleeping without it when we are traveling.)

This review is from: For Crying Out Loud! (Audio CD)
We use this CD every day, multiple times per day, to calm our baby or put him to sleep. Before we got this CD we used a real hair dryer. The CD works just as well and isn't a fire hazard. Highly recommended.
