More About the Author

Hi folks! Welcome to my writing world -- All of my work is grounded in reality with many of my life experiences included as fiction. Eclectic genre is how one reader describes my work.
My old friend from high school wrote this when he was promoting my blog to his family and friends.

"Check out my old buddy's Bob Hatting's Blog. He is the most adventuresome person I have ever met.
Born in Panama where his dad worked on the Panama canal, his family moved back here to Oregon where his dad worked on the construction of Detroit Dam during Bob's teen years. During our high school years Bob manned a Forest Service Fire Lookout on Henline Mountain up the North Fork above Lyons, Oregon during the summers. He has spent time on Guam, commercial fished in Alaska and ferried catches of Salmon for other fisherman to the cannerys in Alaska with his one hundred foot Schooner as well. He has written quite a few novels and screen plays and has lived the many experiences that are described in his writings..
He has spent time in Alaska commercial fishing and has had many newspaper writing employments during his seventy years. He spent time in Eastern Oregon and Arizona ranching and many of his novels refer back to his ranching days. I really don't know of anyone who has a wider experiential background than Bob.
If you knew him you would know that his life reads like a newspaper reporter that always gets caught up in the adventures of the assignments he happened to be working on. He was living the adventures much like Hemmingway or Indiana Jones and with a big grin on his face loving every minute of it. He can be playing solitare and somehow end up in an adventure. I have thought about how this always happens to him and I realize that he has little regard for self preservation and has to look over the edge of a waterfall instead of staying back where it is safe. I honestly think that he is lucky to have stayed alive this long.
He has now moved back to his birth place in Panama to spend his senior years and continues his writing there.
Check out his blog at http://blair-pacificpublishing.blogspot.com and read his books. They are great. You will love them. I honestly think you cannot find any better adventure books anywhere. And there are no commercials. LOL...Ray"

Thirteen novels and six screenplays are posted to this site. The latest two being TRES PIEDRAS (3 Stones) and SHOOTER. My 11th was HART RULES, the third in the Jimmy Hart series. # 10 is UNTAMED, a contemporary western set in southern Arizona in 1973. REVOLUTION OF FOOLS, is the sequel to MURDER IN PANAMA. Both are action adventure novels with Panama as its backdrop. HALF-BREED, is a period western set in 1886 -- Arizona Territory. ExPat, is a romantic caper novel with Mexico as its backdrop. BOOMER is a period western, written for a youth audience. CRYSTAL COWBOY is a contemporary romantic comedy set in the world of professional rodeo. ALASKA BE DAMNED! is a romantic drama. THE LAST FRUIT STAND ON GUAM is a bawdy romantic comedy that features a great deal of dark humor. PARTNERS, is a contemporary action adventure western set in southern Arizona.
Happy Reading,
Robert Hatting

Having already read another of this author's books, I picked "Crystal Cowboy" expectant. And yes, disappointed I was NOT!

This story gripped me from the very beginning, with its lovely main characters, Harp and Goldie, mother and son who are friends and partners more than anything else. The journey to a local rodeo contest turns into a long gripping adventure for both of them, and for quite a few others, their friends and partners and even their antagonists. Like it so very often happens in a real life, they got into all sorts of unexpected adventures the modern day cowboys, apparently, know how to deal with, finding love and more friends along the way.

I kept turning pages (virtually so, as I'm very fond of my Kindle), enjoying the journey alongside with them, surprised at the many unexpected turns. The story rolls on smoothly, pleasantly, wonderfully consistent, enjoyable and light despite its unarguable depth. The characters are growing, changing along the way, but subtly so, the way it happens in the real life, usually through mundane, non-dramatic events.

I grew very fond of this author's style and I'm planning to read as many of his works as I can lay my hands on, having a few more of his books on my Kindle already.

A highly recommended 5 stars read!

I enjoyed reading this book from cover to cover. It opened my eyes as to what really goes on behind the scenes of a rodeo. The author has a wonderful imaginative mind and keeps up the interest of the story throughout. I loved Crystal Cowboy and look forward to reading all of his books.

Crystal Cowboy takes you right into the heart of modern Rodeo. A riviting story of a group of rodeo cowboy's lives in and out of the arena that could have just happened anywhere you might find people wearing cowboy boots. I hope the author does a sequel as I was left wanting more as I finished the book.

What an exciting book to read! Cowboys & girls will not want to miss this one. A modern day rodeo setting that includes political activists, a mother/son/mom's boyfriend war, and well-written romance, makes this book much more than just another western story. Loved reading this contemporary rodeo adventure by Robert Hatting.

In this contemporary novel, set in the world of rodeo, Robert Hatting takes the reader right into the stands and bucking chutes, providing a realistic behind the scenes look at the art of rodeo riding, as well as the politics of the sport.
As usual, Mr. Hatting drives the story along with his portrayals of a cast of colorful and somewhat eccentric characters who, in spite of their quirks, adhere to a code of honor and conduct. Every character, even the minor ones, are so expertly drawn that they jump off the page in full living, breathing life. Mr. Hatting's skill at this brings the reader into the story to the point where you can smell the saddle leather and horse sweat (along with other substances common to ranching and rodeo).
The fast moving narrative examines matters such as morality, ethics, and honor, while still providing the reader a rollicking good time.
Anything missing here? Oh, I don't know...maybe a sequel?
