Gemstone divination book with colorful pictures, March 12, 2005
This review is from: Crystal Decoder: Harness a Million Years of Earth Energy to Reveal Your Lives, Loves, and Destiny (Paperback)
This book is full of colorful pictures and has some information at the beginning that is interesting but not terribly in depth about how crystals are formed and the history of the uses of crystals from scientific to esoteric, around the world. It comes with a nifty board to do the readings with and it provides information on 20-some different stones that can be used for the readings. I've really enjoyed it even though I think it's slighly 'fluffy'. I have been using gemstones/crystals in reiki healings for years and also read tarot. I think that anyone interested in divination with gemstones could take some good ideas from this book!

Interesting Divination Technique, November 23, 2004
This review is from: Crystal Decoder: Harness a Million Years of Earth Energy to Reveal Your Lives, Loves, and Destiny (Paperback)
I love divination tools. I am always looking for different types and styles of divination to play with. Sue Lilly offers a unique type of divination tool here that can be put together by anyone and if you are interested in stones and crystals and astrology, this book offers a perfect blend of both. While not "Craft" in intent, the book lends itself to be adapted to Craft use by altering some meanings to fit our own personal studies and experiences.
There are actually two different forms of divination described in this book using three different structures. Sue Lilly's techniques of divination combine the aspects of the "Twelve Houses", or the Signs of the Zodiac in astrology or the "compass directions" with the associated aspects and meanings of various types of stones and crystals. These magic's come together to form a very insightful and interesting method of divination readings.
In the book Ms. Lilly introduces divination, crystals and their energies, discusses various aspects of crystals, including working with crystals, where they come from, their healing aspects and then proceeds on to working with the crystals. This section gives a very basic overview of the topic.
The divination section is also brief in both the ideas and explanations. While it is a very good overview, you may want to augment this study with books that cover this in more detail. While the book contains a good index, and some sources for stones, there is no bibliography, so you are left on your own to further your research.
The main idea of the book is the readings. Using various stones and/or crystals, they are cast upon a board that either notes compass directions or astrological houses. Depending on where the crystals fall when dropped on the board and the association to the compass points or astrological house, you get your reading drawn from the associations of the crystals to the board meaning. While the book is specific in some references, your best bet is to let experience and your own studies lead you in your readings.
Included as part of the cover in the back of the book is a "board", two sided, that can be used to do your readings. One side is called "The Compass Board" and is laid out in a grid divided into 8 compass directions. The book contains instructions for doing readings using this board and suggested meanings. Directions are associated with various aspects... knowledge, wealth, relationships. Meanings are brief but clear and understandable.
Same applies to the astrological signs. Again, the reverse side of the board offers a layout grid divided into the "Twelve Houses". The book gives basic aspects of each house and some material to work with.
The balance of the book discusses various crystal aspects. Included for each crystal or stone is a brief look at "Myth and History" "Spiritual and Healing Properties" "Divinatory Interpretation" and "Suggested Readings".
The choice of stones is left up to the reader to acquire. You can choose stones that appeal to you or your client, or stones that have special meaning, or just stones that you have acquired. Note that no stones are included with this book. Suggested is 13 stones but you can use however many you wish to work with.
The book is well laid out, however the stones part is not alphabetical. The Index, however, makes up for this. The best feature of the book, however, is the graphics. All crystals/stones are photographed very nicely, and reproduced in color, making identification easy. To be honest, the whole book is very nicely printed, full color illustrations grace each page, and the glossy paper and strong card covers make this a very lovely presentation.
If you are interested in various forms of divination, this book presents a new and interesting way of combining astrology with crystals and compass directions with crystals. This material is very basic and for the beginner will have them referencing many other books to broaden their knowledge base. For the experienced astrologer with a good knowledge of crystals, or visa versa, you will find this interesting, different and possibly a challenge to master this technique. I know it has sent me even further in my studies of astrology, but I like the results I am getting and it is well worth the effort to learn and use. boudica

It's a beautiful book., April 19, 2001
This review is from: Crystal Decoder: Harness a Million Years of Earth Energy to Reveal Your Lives, Loves, and Destiny (Paperback)
It's a beautifully put-together book filled with color photos, drawings and charts. It discusses how to select your personal stones, stones for the day or event or other purposes. It also discusses each stone's history, origins, use, spiritual and divine interpretation, chakra relationships, etc.
What distinguishes this book from another gem book in my mind is that the author has shared her insight of each stone in a meaningful and concise way. It's in a way like getting a psychic reading. It tells you what kind of person you are and what state of mind you're in. Very entertaining and quite accurate.
I think the book is a good value for the money. It's printed on thick, glossy paper, filled with good information, and can serve well as a good coffee table book also. Everyone will find something interesting in there at a party or meeting, and if you keep it for your viewing only, it will be like a collector's item.
