Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Englishwoman Marianna Sheldrake introduces this guide to crystal healing with two pithy bits of wisdom. First, "A closed mind is like a closed parachute--absolutely useless and, at the wrong time, potentially fatal." And second, "Magic is only science yet to be explored." With noticeably down-to-earth concepts, she proceeds to instruct the neophyte and the experienced in the finer points of healing, not only with crystals but also energy healing in general. She acknowledges that the patient's emotional state and capacity for visualization, as well as the healer's intent--which smacks of faith healing--are necessary to effect a cure, but explains how the energies in minerals can restore balance to a diseased body. Chapter 5 is an exhaustive list of characteristics of individual crystals, chapter 6 a list of ailments and the crystals used to heal them. This book is a must-read for those fascinated by crystals; those interested in subtle energy fields and chakra therapy will also find themselves duly informed. --P. Randall Cohan

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Excellent Resource for Beginners, April 21, 2000
This review is from: The Crystal Healer: A Guide to Understanding Crystals and Their Healing Gifts (Paperback)
As stated in the subject, this is another excellent tool for beginners. Although it isn't my favorite book on crystal healing (I'm partial to the works of Brett Bravo), it is written in a down-to-earth style that is easy to follow and provides loads of information. Very well done.

4.0 out of 5 stars unique, September 17, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Crystal Healer: A Guide to Understanding Crystals and Their Healing Gifts (Paperback)
This book is a wonderful guide to all healers. The introductory chapters are really good for anyone pursuing the healing arts, even though the author chooses minerals as her medium. The models of energy dynamics are unique, and I would not reccomend using all of them, especially together, but it does provide insight into one person's empirically derived model of crystal healing.

Sheldrake includes a directory of crystals that is more extensive than most concise ones, though it is lacking in mineralogical information. Sometimes entries are even lacking in metaphysical information. In addition to the compendium of stones, there is a brief listing of reccomended uses of minerals and combinations for various forms of disease and other associations. This compliments the previous chapter, and it expands the knowledge of healing with minerals.

Also discussed in Sheldrake's The Crystal Healer are crystal tools and establishing oneself as a healer. The book is full of real examples from her own practise, providing a sense of experience and familiarity with the topics covered.
