Re-New Order, July 27, 2001

This EP is worth the bucks, but only for true New Order fans. The new tune (from the up-coming CD) entitled "Crystal", is good, but it's not going to make you forget any of their classics. Still, some 'new' New Order is better than 'no' New Order. It's a hard-edged and slightly aggressive tune, but lyrically uninspired. The four live tunes are fun, especially "Temptation" which is given the full treatment here. "True Faith" is pretty mush a straight read, and the CD closes out with two Joy Division covers: "Atmosphere" and "Isolation." These two put the CD over the top. I don't regret the high price I paid for this import CD. But then , I love New Order. If you do, then you won't regret it either.

Crystal completely surprised me when I first heard it. I've been partial to the dancey side of NO since Blue Monday but Crystal changed that. It ROCKS and they sound GREAT!
