Great value.You get a good ,light, action rod .A perfectly functioning (plastic) reel,2 wet flies,fly-line and a leader. Ideal for learner/beginner or in my case an old veteran fisherman. You can easily replace the reel with a better model should you wish later. The rod has a nice even action and I was surprised at how good it reacted. Make sure to buy your own Flies before using it(As all flies are local and seasonal). I would recommend this .

This was just the product at a good price to get me interested in fly fishing. You will outgrow it in a couple of weeks though. Can't beat the price, but you do indeed get what you pay for. The reel is plastic, and I broke it when I...um...fell into the river. It does not come with backing, which is fine for beginners.

Although this is the cheapest combo you can find. the reel is plastic and does not work as you would expect at the bare minimum. The tension settings are just plain poor and not adjustable beyond the weight of a nail.

You may want to consider something else but you will definitely want to purchase a different reel if you buy this, so you basically bought a rod and fly fishing line since the reel is useless.

If I knew the reel was one step up from a toy, I would of purchased the martin fly rod and reel combo. Its more money but will last for years and the reel is quite good and sturdy.
I would pass on crystal river if I was you.
By the way, I bought two crystal river kits and both reels were poorly made and operational so it wasnt just the one kit that was poorly made, it was both.

Have not been able to use my new pole, Pole is ok but the reel is broken and does not work, how do I get a new reel?

I wasn't too impresss with the floating line that was provided. Usually all combo flyrod n reel comes with full amount of line. Yours didnt even come with atleast 3/4 of line....Sorry to tell yah....Disappointed :-(

Nice fly rod and reel package. Had it set up in minutes! Good sturdy construction. Just no fish yet.

The rod and reel seem acceptable. I'm planning to replace the reel with something made of metal.

The flies, on the other hand, were put together with a non-waterproof glue. After three casts I was fishing with a naked hook.

I have purchased this rod since November 29,2011 and they not send this product to me yet on the top of this they took my money already. What kind of business is this? That is cheating and try to take people money. It is really bad seller!!!!

I have gone fishing three times with this. It does really well for the price. The line seems to absorb water after a few hours and starts to sink but oh well(considering name brand line costs between 40 and 80 bucks by itself). If you look at what a store bought rod costs you will know why this is a good starter rod to see if you like fly fishing. Let say you are flying somewhere and want to fly fish when you get there. why not have one of these sent there before you go and not have to hassle with paying 20-30 bucks to check your rod at the airport.

For less than the price of a spool of fly line, this kit is quite impressive. I've taken it out a few times in the mountains and it performs just as well, to me anyway, as the couple hundred dollar set-ups my buddies were using. I'd definitely buy another couple of these for my kids.
