5.0 out of 5 stars It works!, July 28, 2009
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Let me start by saying that under normal circumstances I wouldn't be discussing my body odor, but to explain, I find it appropriate.

For a female, I think I have fairly strong body odor. I used to use Secret Platinum (which is supposedly very strong) and it worked most of the time. The times that it didn't (hot days, days that I was moderately active, and strangly enough whenever I would wear a tank top or sleeveless shirt, regardless of activity or weather), I had a horrible combination smell of the powder scent (from the Secret) and my own body odor. It would gross my husband out.

So then I switched to Mitchum for men (unscented - my husband used). Of all the brands in the aisle, it had the highest level of active ingredient. This worked (again except when I wore a tank top - strange, I know!). My problem with this, was that first of all the levels of aluminum were very high. Secondly, it was sticky.

So I decided to try the Crystal brand of salt deodorant French Transit - Crystal Stick Body Deodorant, 4.25 oz sticks. I started with just the solid salt stick, without the spray. To my surprise, it worked. I had to get used to the idea, that I was going to sweat still, but when I did, it didn't smell. I also had to master the technique. When applying under your arms, you have to go about an inch higher, lower, all around further than you would regular deodorant and you had to apply it liberally. There were times, that I did still notice a smell, but compared to the smell I had with the Secret and b.o. together, this was nothing. It took a couple of days to tweak it to my body and find the places I really needed to use it more. What's great, is that once it is dry, it doesn't feel like you have applied anything on. Plus it doesn't stain your clothes.

After doing this for a couple of weeks, I decided to try the spray Crystal Body 30093 Crystal Spray Body Deodorant, 4-Ounce Spray Bottles in 3-Count Packages (Pack of 2). This improved my overall b.o. problem tremendously. Now, after I dry myself off after a shower, I spray the spray on my pits, and other areas of my body. I then squirt a small amount on the salt stick and apply again to my underarms and any other areas of major concern. With this combination, I am able to double the salt concentrations. This has worked tremendously. I just wore a tank top the other day to our city fair. I was in the hot sun for two hours, walking around, riding rides, playing with my son and had no odor problems.

I find the key to using these products, is to use them together and liberally. My guess is if you sweat a lot, enough to make noticeable wet stains on your clothes, this may not be for you. I would assume the sweat would wash away the salt during the day. I think I sweat about average and it works for me. My husband now uses both products as well and he sweats more than me, but for the most part, it works for him. It doesn't eliminate the odor completely, but it works just as well as any other deodarant does for him, with the bonus of less chemicals, not clogging his pores and not staining his shirts yellow.

We have had the salt stick and the six pack of spray for a few months now. We are about a third away through the salt stick (with both of us using it) and we have used about one and half bottles of spray, so it seems to be lasting us good long while. In the long run, I imagine it will be the same cost or cheaper than using the old deodorants.

I suggest giving it a try. It can't hurt, but it could help!

2.0 out of 5 stars Kinda works, January 27, 2010

Bob S. (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Crystal - Crystal Stick Body Deodorant, 4.25 oz sticks (Health and Beauty)
I bought this a year and a half ago and I've been using it all the while. When I first bought it, it worked great. I could put it on a after a shower and I wouldn't stink at all for up to two days. Normally I shower every morning, but a few times that first summer that I bought it I tried out two days without a shower and it performed great. However, it seems like my body has slowly become accustomed to it. In a few months its lasting power diminished. I'd say about six months into owning it, it was only working for half a day. Anything more than light activity that causes the slightest perspiration will kill it's stink-prevention much more quickly. In other words, you're odor free as long as you don't do much - it's almost like wearing nothing at all. That's about where it has stayed over this last year and I'm now looking for something new. The thing that seems really strange to me about this product is it never seems to get used up. Maybe I'm using it wrong. I put it on when I get out of the shower when my underarms are still quite wet and I apply it liberally all over the place. It's been a year and a half and I don't think I used up more than a half of an inch of the stone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best deordorant I've ever used, January 30, 2004
By
A little secret nobody wants you to know, or they are just too ignorant to be aware of is that alumnium is a heavy metal that causes permenant nerve damage (think about that next time you get a can of soda). The way commercial deodorants prevent perspiring is with an alternate form of alumnium. There has been a large amount of research proving how a lifetime of alumnium intake via deodorant and soda cans leads to alheimerz disease, as well as memory loss and lack of motor function. I've tried many natural deodorants and some have worked ok but none of them every worked better than commercial ones until I tried the one that sounded so silly, I had refused to try it.

What I'm talking about is what many people call the "thai stone" or "crystal" or "mineral". As a consumer I've come to believe you need a goop of substance in yoru arm pit to prevent body ordor but as I learned more about I realized it's not your sweat that smells but oils being broken down by bacteria that smell. So the obvious solution here is to prevent the bacteria, not cover up or block the odor. I tried the stone and the very first day it worked better than any deordorant in my life, even after physical activities. What is more surprising is after you wet the stone and rub it on, you'll swear nothing actually is on your armpit but my daily activities have proven what little is being transferred to your body, works like butter on toast.
