ok first of all i must say this is one of the best rpg's in NES but not so much in GB. since the GB color's screen was so small the game was edited so that the character would look bigger on screen taking away some visual radius, meaning you will be closer to the enemies before you can see them.

As the game progresses you gain more fighting and magic abilities and more areas of the world to explore. Because you can choose several different paths to take, this game is always interesting and has pretty good replay value. For those people who played the original version of Crystalis on the 8-bit Nintendo system, the Gameboy Color version has improved graphics, sound, AND some added areas and story line.

I am new to Crystalis and was very happy to play it for the first time. It has light elements of RPG and is similar to Link's Awakening DX (also a new game to me!) The world is beautiful in full color and the music will have you humming its tune long after you stop playing - if you can stop! The battery-backed save lets you save 3 different games, but it doesn't save EXACTLY where you were last, and there is currently no guide book for it. There is no bestiary list for all the monsters either. These complaints are minor, and don't detract from the sterling quality of this game at all. The swords doubling as projectile weapons are really cool and the game has an interesting magic system. You will love this game.

This game is so cool it makes me chicken slappin happy. You start out with only a sword and the beginning is fairly easy. I think that all role-players should at least try the game because your sure to love it

4.0 out of 5 stars The Best overhead Adventure game ever., July 2, 2000

Crystalis has been my favorite adventure game since the beginning. Zelda has nothing on this.

When SNK made the original they were pressed by a deadline, and therefore couldn't get everything into the game they wanted. This time around they have fixed that.

The awesome story has more detail, and makes more sense. Places that were removed from the original game have been put back in. It's an awesome remake.

There are a few downsides to the GBC version however. For example, the absolutely awesome music from the original has been removed and replaced by new music that, decidedly, is not as good.

Also, the original maps had to be slightly shrunk. For example, the Valley of the Wind (and most of the overworld) is much smaller and, in effect, it now takes less time to get from place to place. Some people may think that is a good thing, but I feel as if something of the original flare has been taken away.

I still plan on buying this game. Especially since it's so hard to get the original. As a matter of fact, I'm buying a Game Boy Color for this and a couple other games.

Overall, this is the greatest Adventure game of all time.

they also changed the story a little, in the first one the main character was a scientist who built a flying tower and was frozen before the end of the world due to nuclear war and mutants roamed the lands of the future were magic is also available. in the GB version he was one of the people who developed magic powers and went into hivernation, the tower's there too and so are the beasts but more magic less sciece. simply put an age of magic replaced an age of technololgy(vissionaries style).but that's not so important.
now the worst thing they did was to change the musical score completely and replace it with a horrible one, if you played the original game and remenber how cool the music was, playing while listening to the new music might be frustrating and even anoying. i don't recomend this version exept if you're too curios to see the differences but in my opinion its not worth it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the original, May 13, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Crystalis (Game Cartridge)
This game was one of my all-time favorite games for the old Nintendo Entertainment system, so I was very happy to hear that NST was remaking the game for the Game Boy color. However, this version of the game spoils pretty much everything that was good about the original. The game holds your hand every step of the way. This new "feature" might be great for your average 5 year old, but it greatly tones down the difficulty and removes all sense of freedom and exploration. Also, the great music from the original has been removed and replaced with garbage. If you want to play a good version of Crystalis, play the NES version. If you want a good adventure game for your Game Boy, buy Zelda. As it is, this version of the game is a disappointment, so I can't recommend it.

In a land destroyed by technology and only the power of magic can save civilization, there is an evil beyond all belief. This evil combines the power of magic with the banished ways of technology to eradicate human life. The only way this evil can be destroyed is by recovering the mightiest sword of all time... The sword of Crystalis!

Crystalis is a great RPG style game that will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time you are playing it. There are many challenging bosses and enemies to defeat along with many grueling mazes. The gameplay and the graphics are excellent and you are bound to be hypnotized by the thrilling plot. But Why take my word for it. Buy Crystalis and find out for yourself!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Role Playing Game - Crystalis, July 17, 2000

Crystalis is a game that came out originally for Super Nintendo that was a lot like Zelda. Crystalis is mostly about a boy who wakes up to save the Earth from an Evil Sorceror named Dragonia. To do this, the boy must find four swords: The Sword of Wind, The Sword of Fire, The Sword of Water, and the Sword of Thunder. Once he has done this, he can combine the swords to create Crystalis, thus the title. This is a very intriguing game that is a lot like the original, however the final boss in the original, DYNA, is now just a regular boss. There is another entire level to the Game Boy Color Version. The controls and graphics are great, and these are some of the best Game Boy voices I've heard, but the game is fun to play overall. This is a great addition to the RPG lover's collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars Better Before, January 5, 2009

This is a remake of an NES game and it was better as the original. The gameplay on the Gameboy is not as fast paced and there is a lot less room to move around in. The music really suffered in the transition and there is a lot more pointless talking. By itself it is still not that great of a game. A small screen makes it really easy to run into an enemy that you don't see in time. Overall, this game could use some work but if you have nothing else to do you could probably waste some time on it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A really good game boy game for RPG, November 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Crystalis (Game Cartridge)
This game is really good if you like RPGs. I'm new to RPG playing, but this is the best game I have written. I love having to explore everywhere to find everything you need. I love the fighting that is involved. Hack-and-slash is one of my favorite things. I also love learning all of the spells and talking to everyone. The only problem I have is that it takes a while to get to all of the new towns, especially if you stop to fight all of the monsters that you meet. I recommend this game for anyone, and everyone, who likes RPG.
