I would not recommend this book as a resource to prepare for the CST...It definately had MANY errors and also poor organization of material. There was not one graph, chart, timeline or graphic organizer to enhance presentation of material. I also found that the material presented in the book was not true to the material covered on the actual test. A friend had used an online resource and her materials were much more accurate of determining test material.

I recently borrowed this book from the library. There are many type o's as someone has already said, and the grammar was off at certain spots. In addition, there is no mention of the essay portion of the test. Even though we already know what the essay is going to be, they still should have reviewed it (maybe some people don't know that the essay is going to be a passage that needs grammatical correction). Also there is only one practice exam at the end (there should have been more). I highly recommend that you use the review that the NYSTCE website gives you in addition to other review books as well. I took a review class for the CST and the teacher said that the NYSTCE website has the best review available, and that the makers of the review books are just guessing at what is going to be on the actual exam. The Cliff Tests Multi-Subject CST Review book is better than this, and the REA (Research & Education Association) review book is superior to the XAM book as well.

As a survey, this may be useful to some. However, it is not well edited. It contains many typos; the grammar is spotty, and although it refers to a number of sources, it does not contain a bibliography. With a lot of careful rewriting, this could be a very good resource.
