This review is from: Cub Cadet CS 5720 Commercial Grade 57cc 2-Stroke Gas Powered 20-Inch Chain Saw (Lawn & Patio)
I researched the market for best values on mid-range chainsaws and eventually decided on this Cub Cadet CS5722, a professional quality saw made by Emak, the same Italian company that makes Efco. In fact the Cub Cadet CS5722 is identical to the Efco 156 except it is Cub Cadet yellow instead of Efco red. The best price I found for this saw brand new was through Amazon for $299, which was about $180 less than the identical Efco 156 at a dealer. This saw is amazing! Starts easily and warms up fast. It came with a 20 inch bar and I have buried the bar to the hilt in big Douglas fir with no bogging down. It is slightly heavier than a Husky 455 Rancher and slightly lighter than a Stihl 290 Farm Boss but at 4.1 hp it has more horsepower than either of those saws. I have run both the Husky 55 and Stihl 290 in my work and they are both fine saws. But this Cub Cadet/Efco outperforms both those saws and it appears to very solidly built. It has a tubular metal handle instead of the plastic handles used on the Husky 455 and Stihl 290. I would highly recommend this saw if you want a saw you can run for years and pass on down to the kid. I went out and bought a case for it too, the cases sold by Husky (red), Echo (orange), and Efco (red) are all identical and fit this saw just fine, about $55, and you can carry saw mix, bar oil, wedges, tools, and an extra chain in this case. A saw this well made deserves a good home! This saw is a giant step up from an 18" Craftsman 35190 $149, (rebranded Poulan) which I briefly owned and returned to Sears a week later out of frustration. Lesson learned - sometimes it takes a cheap consumer grade piece of junk to motivate one to research and uncover the availability of good quality products on the market. This Cub Cadet CS5722 is a quality product.

I bought this saw one month ago. Used it once to cut few medium size trees, works very well and very powerful. I did some research before purchasing this chain saw, and had hard time to decide which one to buy - Makita DCS6401-20 or this one. Decided to buy Cub Cadet because it was cheaper almost by twice.

Cub Cadet is a great product. The reason for the "disappointed" tag is
there is absolutely no service for the chain saw within reasonable driving distance from me. Also, the instruction manual is a runoff copy of the original and you cannot register the chain saw on the site because it isn't even listed. I guess I should say support for the product is a disappointment.

I've only had my cs5720 for about a week. The sticker on the saw near the rear handle indicates that the saw was manufactured in 2005. There is a little rust on some of the screws and the rear handle feels a little fragile in my hand.
Even so, this is a good and well-built saw. It loves to start and it cuts almost as well as my Stihl 036. The 036 has 3.75 CI of displacement and the Cub Cadet has 3.45 CI. Considering the extra power in the Stihl the Cadet's performance is impressive. As someone above may have mentioned, Cub Cadet does not make these saws - Efco does. The Cub Cadet cs5720 is the Efco 156 (it is also the John Deere CS56). Considering the price of a new Efco 156, the Cub Cadet saw sold here on Amazon is a steal. I sent a few emails to Efco through their website inquiring about local dealers and they responded promptly, naming three dealers in my local (very rural) area. So now that I've got the Cadet, if I find that I need parts or service, I won't be holding a saw nobody's ever seen or heard of. I am a happy cutomer. I like my saw and I got good service through Amazon prime. ADDITIONAL: I've cut down, bucked and sectioned about fourteen trees with this cs5720. It cuts well and it is not too heavy. My only complaint is that the air filter isn't quite as snug as it should be and this allows delicate bits of sawdust to slip past the filter. I've been sealing the filter-edges with grease and that's worked pretty well. I'm going to leave up my original five star rating on account of the price. If the saw had been more expensive I would have given the saw four stars.

have used it only once - great thus far - looks and acts just like they say it should - the longer blade makes for much easier sawing in large logs - of course I am comparing it to old worn out 16" saw - but thus far good - easy to adjust chain. Put it in Husquevarna big orange carrying case and fits very well. good saw thus far.

I have an outdoor wood burner and needed a newer bigger saw. This saw has lots of power and runs great. Just make sure to remove the plastic spacer in between the bar and the saw before using it or you will wreck a chain. The manual tells you to do that but it isn't highlighted and in in the middle of the book.
Otherwise, the saw ran good right out of the box. Puts lots of saw chips on the ground. |
