About the Author
Robert Gu?rin is author of the popular "Cubase SX Power!" (Muska & Lipman Publishing, 1929685858), "Cubase Power!" (Muska & Lipman Publishing, 1929685459), and "MIDI Power!" (Muska & Lipman Publishing, 1929685661).
As a composer for the past 14 years, Robert has worked on different personal and commercial projects such as feature & short films, television themes, educational and corporate videos. Composing, arranging, playing, recording, and mixing most of his material, he has developed working habits that allow him to be creative without losing the sense of efficiency.
As a professor, Robert has teaches courses covering a wide range of topics, such as: computer software for musicians, digital audio technologies, sound on the web, sound in multimedia productions, hard disk recording, and many more. He has been program coordinator at Trebas Institute and a part time professor at Vanier College both in Montreal. Robert has developed online courses on sound integration in Web pages and has written numerous articles for audio and music related online magazines. Good, but too much similar to the Operation Manual,

This is a book to read cover to cover. It guides you through the main Cubase features giving you an in depth knowledge.
I give it 3 stars because after reading the book I read the Operation Manual and I found that the book is too much similar to the Operation manual. It is a kind of "light version" of the operation manual with some really useful expert tips & tricks. Anyway I would have prefered to have more comments ("why" using this feature), because these comments are the real addition to the operation manual. For learning the basic procedures I find the operation manual easier to follow, since it is more redundant and therefore easier to follow. This book totally lacks a tutorial "ready to go" approach, and if you don't read cover to cover it's difficult to perform even a simple task. So finally: a good book, worth the price, but I would suggest the author to add more comments to it, more tips, more "expert explanations" so the book has more original content.

This is the book that should have came in the box. It walks you thru the entire program, from install to mastering. Easy to read and understand, this is one of those books that sit right beside the DAW for those times you just need to know how to do something.
I have read over 12 books that supposedly was written to help you learn Cubase SX3, but this is the only one that lived up to it's claims. The included CD is just 5 demos of the CSi Video tutorials, nothing big, just a video commercial, I bought the 3 part ASKVideo SX3 Tutorials, and they are the best.....and I also checked out a lot of those also. Cubase SX3 is a huge, flexible product that does not eat up resources like the new Version 4 does. SX3 is a capable program, and in the 4 months of using the Cubase SX/SL POWER! book and ASKVideo Tutorials, I feel that I have an above average grasp of how to run this program in my home setup. If you own Cubase SX/SL 3, and would like a better grasp of how this program works, buy this book, you will not regret it!

Cubase is one of the big professional sequencer programs. What came with it was a brief "getting started" manual that did not cover enough in depth to please me. But Robert Guerin's book on Cubase SX/SL3 was very helpful in filling out my knowledge. With 480+ pages it is thorough and is one of those books that borders on being a Bible. One of the strong points of the book are common sidebars called "How To" that list the menu and button presses to do some common task. Not only were they easy to follow they would be easy to find and use after an initial reading. There are still a number of places where terminology and abbreviations get particularly thick. That is, sometimes you are expected to know a lot of studio terminology. But these were not so common as to be terribly difficult. I would recommend this as a very adequate book for learning Cubase in depth.
