Book Description

Dislike your job? Stuck in a beige or gray cubicle wearing itchy nylons and uncomfortable heels or a necktie noose around your neck? Does your overpaid boss have a window office featuring natural light while you wither at your desk shuffling his papers? Are your coworkers mostly drone heads with various levels of neuroses? What about your salary—does it live up to your expectations? Do you sit in rush hour traffic five mornings a week inhaling exhaust fumes from the ridiculously large SUV braking heavily in front of you? Do you spend 3.8 hours a day perusing the internet on company time for a new improved cubicle? How much do you have saved for retirement? How many jobs have you had, anyway, including that burger joint in high school? Does The Man irk you beyond description? Tired of gazing at coworker Brenda’s skeet marks she so politely left in the workplace toilet? Where do you see yourself in five years? Oh look—there’s a catered meeting in the conference room. If you hurry you can score a free previously fondled muffin and not have to waste 85 cents in the vending machine.
Cubicle Rebel is the true story of a tragically right-brain office avoider, a directionless malcontent former employee of everything from chicken joints to retail and finally office life. Join the author as she gets hired and fired, takes a failed sabbatical that resulted in a 40-pound weight gain, moves to an undesirable first home, becomes homeless—all while trying unsuccessfully to find purposeful work. You will relate as an office worker/professional.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Interesting, Memorable read August 19, 2012

Great read for us "Cubicle Prisoners" everywhere. I enjoyed the author's viewpoints, issues, pluckiness, and cautionary tales. I recommend this to anyone suffering the humiliation, poverty, and lack of opportunity stemming from their employment, you will recognize parts of you throughout this book! Of small note: the very last pages seem to contain some extraneous thoughts by the author, which felt like a distraction to the book--for this reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. But the rest of this book is well-worth the time to read, you won't forget it.

This book is back pains funny!!! If you've worked as many different jobs as I have in the quest for satisfying employment, this book will connect with your soul. It is insightful, reviling, touching, but mostly hilarious. It is intelligently written about a young lady trying to make it. Through her shared experiences, You will see your coworkers and bosses. You will find yourself saying "Oh my God, That has happended to me too". So treat yourself and laugh alot.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Workplace Hoot November 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I purchased this book because the title caught my eye and then I read the blurb and figured it'd be a fun read. And it was. The author chronicled all of her jobs up until the years she landed in office life and as she said "withered." It's relatable to all who have worked in any type of office environment because it talks about coworkers, crazy bosses, the nuances of office life that we all experience and groan at and laugh at. It was a pretty funny and raw read.

More About the Author

Jennifer Kley is an award winning author (mostly poetry and comedy) who has been birthing and belching words publicly for over two decades. She absolutely despises structured environments containing cubicles and involving protocol. She is a sloppy rebel who remains true to whatever cause is on her plate or in her bowl. She resides in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. She plans on obtaining a loyal dog soon; one that will fit into an easily totable tote bag. She's hoping you will read Cubicle Rebel and quote from it regularly.
