Heavy on Gossip, Light on Marketing or "Quit Your Job" Content,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: From Cubicle Slave to the Next Internet Millionaire (Paperback)
First of all, apologies for having to write this as a "kid." This whole online marketing community is inbred though and the anonymity by doing so is the only way to really be honest. As one person already mentioned, all the 5-star reviews are from insiders who are on Joel's payroll (via his affiliate program or a place on the show) and have something to gain by saying nice things. Do these guys think we're stupid?
Jaime has a light writing style, which makes the book very easy to read. Unfortunately, what she spends the majority of her time talking about is the "gossip" element of the show. It reads like a conversation in her head. Wonderful if you're a fan of People Magazine or Perez Hilton, but this is supposed to be a marketing book and I expected a bit more content in that area. There is certainly some good stuff within the book, but the specific content about quitting your job is given over 6 pages at the end, in an appendix. But Jaime has VERY LITTLE CREDIBILITY when it comes to giving advice for how people can quit their jobs. She was on an online based reality show, walked away with cash in hand, and then quit. She was at that job for five years before that. Do you think she would have walked out otherwise? But I like Jaime and I hope to see more from her. She certainly has skills in the copywriting and organization areas. She could easily make a career out of being a support person for these guys, organizing big products and teleclasses. Or maybe, in the future, she'll do something big on her own. I don't currently see her as the expert she markets herself as. Joel's just given her the keys for a couple of weeks. He'll be on to his next product soon and will take the keys with him, so time will tell. Bottom line - this book is a success because of Joel and all his affiliates. He's the puppet master here. It's easy to quit a job. The hard part is staying in that situation. Only time will tell for Jaime. And that's why it's too early to come out with a book about quitting your job. It's like me going on a cruise ship for a week and writing a book on how anybody can sail around the world. WIth that said, the book is great for people who are looking to get into the mind of the average newbie. If you're looking to develop products in that market, you'll find it very helpful. It's also helpful, to some extent, to see how Joel ran things on Next Internet Millionaire. I'm giving this book 3-stars because watching the process of how this (and the other Next Internet Millionaire) projects has been worth that. It was brilliant for him to pick two people to do major launches at the end and you can bet money that we'll be hearing from the people who didn't make it so far, with Joel helping out and taking a piece of the action.

For a behind-the-scenes look at the first internet reality marketing competition, you can't beat this book. Well-written and entertaining, it weaves Jaimie's life lessons and show gossip perfectly.
Where it's weak is in presenting the content from marketing professionals who appeared on the show. Here only once-over-lightly information appears. Could be the meat of the professional content has been saved to present during the 12-week seminar that is promoted in the downloadable workbook. You'll have to pay to find out. So . . . five stars for Jaimie's writing and story-telling, one star for solid marketing content, yielding an average three stars for the book. I hope we'll be hearing more from her, and I hope what we do hear will be full of content as well as charming story-telling.

A little bit like a buried treasure hunt...,

This review is from: From Cubicle Slave to the Next Internet Millionaire (Paperback)
As a fan of the Next Internet Millionaire Show, I was interested in reading the book and getting an "inside" take on the show. Jaime's story was very interesting although it seemed a bit long at times. Interspersed in the narrative, are some terrific nuggets of information about how to build your business (online or not). I would have liked to see a bit more detail rather than outlines... but she does have a course to give too.
Good Luck Jaime!

Nothing worthy in this book,

Don't bother buying this book. It is written by a young woman who, quite frankly, needs to read other books by people who have "done it". She doesn't know anything worth your time and money. Sorry to be blunt ... but there it is.

Sorry Jamie, I really wanted to like this book. I bought it with the intention that it would be a useful resource in the process of easing my way out of the working world and into my own business, but the main focus of the book is really Jamie's experience while participating in, and winning, an online reality show/contest with Joel Comm. It may be a good read for someone who might be interested in that, she does have some useful tips in there that come from Comm and other experts in business and marketing, but I didn't get past the first few chapters.

We mostly agree with Pulsar77; that 99% of these so-called reviewers are promoting themselves, each other, the reviewed online product, and similar products and group affiliates!! Yes, lots of $money can be made, - just keep reviewing and promoting Your' personal reviews and links, - sending unknowing customers / students on-and-on down the $buy $buy $buy road to making $money for these online gurus!! There is still very few ways to bring in big money for very little real work, except for the few whom create, develop, and promote, mostly their' own or 'affiliate' ebook products and services on-the-line.. $$$$$

Jaime Luchuck is One Talented Woman!,
By GutZyWoman (Pueblo, CO United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: From Cubicle Slave to the Next Internet Millionaire (Hardcover)
As a fellow Next Internet Millionaire Contestant, it was amazing was to read a pre-release of Jaime's book and find that she, who had no real previous experience in internet marketing and no solid "idea" about what kind of joint venture she wanted, could communicate so clearly with her own style and humor, many of the great lessons we all learned from the "gurus". There's some pretty good "scoop" in it as well that has been kept totally under wraps until now!
I will have no problem recommending this book to my GutZy Women members, since it fits perfectly with GutZy Women's mission to help people gain more FREEDOM & ABUNDANCE through the use of technology and online marketing. Jaime Luchuck quit her "real" job and is now truly going for it. I say buy her book and let's all join her!

Time is money. Jaime took her task seriously and has really done amazingly well! This book was written in less than six weeks! As founder of Morgan James Publishing, it is an honor to work with such a great author, and now a great book!

I worked with Jaime on more than a few of the tasks on The Next Internet Millionaire and got to see quite closely how she works. She is a highly skilled writer and has created an enjoyable personal story.
Her book is intertwined with life lessons to the reader as well as detailed descriptions of the business teachings we learned on the show. If you want to learn nuggets of information from some of the top marketers on the internet without a typical business "dry" written format, pick up a copy of Jaime's book today.

First off, if you're looking for another "Get Rich On The Internet" book, this isn't for you. There is some great information that will help you on the way but this book was more her story and the experience on the show.
Don't get me wrong, there is VERY valuable information in the book along with a great story. From a story standpoint about her experience on the show. This book is great. Easy to read and very entertaining. For someone that doesn't read many non-business books, this was a great book as it had some business mindset but not full on. Great job! |
