Got this for my wife for Christmas and she absolutely loves it. The craftsmanship is incredible, it keeps time very well, and it's an authentic Black Forest Cuckoo Clock.

The only con, and it's a very small gripe, is there is a bright-green sticker on the side of the clock that doesn't come off easily and is very noticable.

If you're looking for a "real cuckoo clock" that won't break the bank, this is the clock for you. There's no electronics, no batteries, just good old clockwork, the way a cuckoo clock is supposed to be.

Yes you have to wind it everyday & yes its not exactly a precision timepiece. NASA won't be calling to ask the time but that's part of the charm of this clock. Its brimming with personality.

Note that the weights & chains hang a full six feet below the clock so bare that in mind when choosing a location to display this little gem. Also note that it cuckoos twice an hour, all day & all night. There's really no practical way to turn it off at night so this might not be for everyone. Personally I don't notice it when I'm asleep even though my bed is well within earshot of the clock.

This makes a great gift & will add some old world charm to any house. I find myself often standing in front of it, waiting for the bird to come out & sing. Even after many months now I'm still in love with this silly clock. Enjoy.

I am currently in Switzerland on a business trip, and had a request from someone to buy him a cuckoo clock (cuckoo clocks today are more German, but their origins are actually swiss, and some are still made in Switzerland ... though not this one).

After looking at about 100 clocks in a clock shop (not too touristy - so not completely overpriced), I selected this one. I am certain it is the same clock. All the details are the same, down to the specifics of the mechanics.

This is the one I bought. And it cost about 20% more than the current amazon price. Amazon is LESS expensive than buying it in Europe.

I bought it as the gift for a number of reasons

1. Some of the clocks were painted with dancing people and boys chopping wood. That's not the style of the person I'm shopping for. This is more classic and less cutesy

2. There was a huge difference in the quality of the "cuckoo" you hear. There are some that sound like your real "Coo-Coo" and some that sound like a very week attempt. This is definitely the full coo-coo. Most of the ones that were weak had two doors opening. This one has one door that opens on a hinge. I don't know if that's connected to the maker, but the ones that had two doors had birds that barely moved and Cu-ckoos that barely sounded like what you expect.

3. This definitely has a silent mode that you can switch off at night. It's just a lever on the side of the clock. It stops the cuckoo but does not stop the clock from continuing to keep time. That's an important thing to note.

I'm not personally the type to want a cuckoo clock myself that's as detailed as this (and they don't really come less detailed, so I guess I'm not a cuckoo type). But after looking at many clocks, this is the one I chose as the gift.

Now - this clock runs for 30 hours. It will lose time if you don't reset by pulling the weights within that time. There are clocks with heavier weights that run for 8 days. Those are usually at least twice the price.

Overall, I'm glad I bought this. I figured it would be available and less expensive on amazon (what isn't???) but my friend wanted a cuckoo clock from switzerland and that kind of prevented me from buying this clock from amazon and pretending (again, nevermind that it's German made and not made in Switzerland) ...

Anway, it's a solid clock with a strong Cuckoo. I recommend it if that's what you're looking for.

It's a great little clock. I got this one because I read good reviews about it, and they were right. It's very cute, amazingly accurate and it's great that it has a silent mode - although I've never used it because I like the Cuckcoo!

I bought this after being disppointed by broken antiques and cheap battery operated cuckoo clocks (do not buy any clock by Kassel - the cuckoo worked maybe twice and had an awful tinny sound, it also didn't keep accurate time nor did it count the hours accurately). This clock by River City is excellent - easy to follow instructions and worked as soon as I put it together and hung it on the wall. Nice "old fashioned" cuckoo sound too! I'm very happy with the purchase.

This clock is an exact replica of a clock I purchased for my father about 50 years ago! It was exactly as advertised and my father (now 97 years old) was very excited to see his clock so new and shiny again. You must rewind the weights at the same time each day as it is only a one day clock, and with only a slight adjustment on the pendulum leaf, it keeps perfect time. We were so pleased to find something made as well as the first clock we purchased so long ago.

Have had clock for 5 months now and seems to be working fine. Still looks like new. Cats have knocked weights around and pulled on chains several times. Just have to readjust on wall and start again after cat attacks, but keeps on ticking without a problem.

The clock arrived in a well wrapped box with all of the parts safely stabilized for shipping. Attaching the working pieces and mounting the clock was easy and the end result was amazing. This cuckoo exhibits all the old word quality we expected. The bird and bellows emits a beautiful tone and the substantial weights keep the mechanism going beautifully. The quality of the wood carving should also be noted. All in all a classic piece that we are extremely happy with.

I purchased this little clock because it reminded me of the one that used to hang in my grandparents house many decades ago. The craftsmanship is top notch and you'll notice right away that this is a handmade piece. It's a little smaller than I expected, but that's no big deal. It still looks great. It's a piece of cake to unpack and hang on the wall and it's easy enough to adjust if it's running a bit fast or slow. Mine tends to lose about a minute an hour, but again, it's really no big deal. This clock is more about the nostalgia than its ability to keep perfect time.
The cuckoo is loud and sounds very much like the cuckoo I remember at my grandparents some 40 yrs ago. The big disappointment came when I began to search for the "silent lever" that other reviewers have noted. My clock does not have one so there is no way to keep the little birdie from appearing every half hour. This is certainly no problem during the day, but I'm a light sleeper and the little birdie is loud! The instruction manual says that "most" clocks have a silent lever on the side or bottom of the case. Obviously, mine is not one of the "most".
All in all, this is a great little cuckoo and I'm mostly happy with the purchase. However, if silent mode is a major consideration for someone looking for a cuckoo clock, this may not be the one for you.

The clock arrived home in time for Christmas and was obviously beat up. The front face of the clock was scratched on both sides, (hard to see from far away, but not if you are near by). Of the 2 pins inside, one of them had detached and fallen inside and was hard to remove, even with a pair of tweesers.(and you have to remove those pins in order to start the clock.) So I gave it a 3 stars. After a few days, I get a call from Willy Goat, they did not like the 3 stars, and are offering me another clock for a more favorable review in Amazon, I agreed. The next day I get a call from "River City Clocks", that was sounding straight out of "Deliverance", the 1972 Burt Reynolds movie... Not happy.
2 days later, UPS comes and picks up my clock at home.
After a week or so, Willy Goat calls me saying they will NOT send me a new clock or return the old one, that's it, I lost it. River City Clocks never calls. After a month I finally received my refund, less $45.00 of restocking and shipping fees...
I lost the clock, time, money and was deceived! If you get a scratched one, it's probably mine.
