4.0 out of 5 stars Hmm
This album is definitely better than Bucketheadland 2. It's chock-full of powerful, funky metal. With the sort of double bass drumming on this album I don't mind a lot of it being drum machine. I'm in it for the guitar and the grooves. Sometimes this album is a little scattered and suffers from a sort of easily distractedness on the part of Bucket, but its solid Bucket...

3.0 out of 5 stars Hello? Drum Machine?
I can't believe none of the other reviews even mentioned the drum machine. I can understand how a casual listener may not notice, because it sounds like real drums except it is all programmed. There is no soul to the drumming. There is lot of fast double bass which brian doesn't play. Brian just had a say in HOW it was programmed. Trust me, I'm a drummer...

I'm in it for the guitar and the grooves. Sometimes this album is a little scattered and suffers from a sort of easily distractedness on the part of Bucket, but its solid Bucket thrashing his bucket off. If you liked Population Override and Electric Tears, be warned this is nothing like those albums. There seems to be three types of Bucket albums, hard serious albums (cuckoo), melodic slow albums (Tears), and silly annoying albums (BHL2). This one is worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!!!, March 11, 2006
This review is from: The Cuckoo Clocks of Hell (Audio CD)
Buckethead has released an awesome album in "The Cuckoo Clocks of Hell." This is a very unique album in that so many different styles are represented on this album from metal, to funk, blues, etc.. Buckethead is an extremely gifted guitar player and posesses great technical ability. He is right up there with today's virtuosos (i.e. John Petrucci) and can shred with the best of them, but what I love about Buckethead is that he chooses to explore and experiment with the guitar rather than getting caught up in one category, whether it be mindless shred (which can be great), releasing the same album every year, (cough, Malmsteen) or whatever.

If you are a fan of unique guitar playing or great guitar playing for that matter, by all means pick up this album. Buckethead is truly a refreshing guitarist who is not afraid to mix it up on this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars finally buckethead goes all out!, May 5, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Cuckoo Clocks of Hell (Audio CD)
Remember when you would be listening to "sacrifist","monsters n robots","giant robot",ect and thought "man,he should just go for it and take it up even one MORE notch!",well he finally said screw it and out popped "cuckoo clocks of hell"!think of this as the closest thing to a deicide/pantera/slayer/praxis hybrid you'll ever experience('praxis'cause there's still a bit of perfectly intertwined and humourous funk that chimes in hither and thither on most the tracks)this seriously IS every bit as good as any death metal album I've heard-alot of the riffage is so much like the early guitar of cannibal corpse,cryptopsy,cradle-it's just so true to the style itself.the second best part have to be the amazing metallic drummings of brain.you may not even recognize him except for a few classic parts where he "jumbles it up" a little.at times his drums sound like fear factory's raymond herrerra,ex-pantera drummer vinnie paul, ect and his bass drums are right up to par with any of the speedier metal-this dude is versatile as hell!

anyways, this is a classic and a must-have for any bucketfan, and anyone who thought buckethead just was unable to be TRULY heavy absolutly needs to check this stuff out.here's to hoping ol' bucky will play this at next years ozzfest!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD And Very Different, March 21, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I just recently started listening to Buckethead and this is the first CD I bought. It's all instrumental funk metal and strange but good. It's hard to describe but worth buying.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great but too hard for me, February 6, 2007
This review is from: The Cuckoo Clocks of Hell (Audio CD)
I think is a great album being that i am a fan of mostly all of what i know of Bucket, but i think if he toned it down a bit in maybe one or two songs, it might have been a lot better. I still love it just the same, but sometimes i put it on and i'd rather listen to a different album than that. recommended for true shredder and heavy metal fans

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good PROGRESSIVE-FUNK-JAZZ-METAL album !, May 26, 2006
By
This review is from: The Cuckoo Clocks of Hell (Audio CD)
First off, this album is a great listen for anyone who enjoys death-funk-tech-jazz-guitar playing. This is a short review to correct a false statement made by another reviewer.

"this is good album w/ unbelievable riffs and playin but there is something missing.... solos hello there are like only 1 or 2 on the entire cd."

I ordered this particular Buckethead cd, then I decided to come here and read about it. When I read the aforementioned statement, I wasn't so excited about hearing this cd that I had already ordered. However, this statement is truly false, as there is mucho shredding contained on this disc. Considering the fact that there are 17 tracks on this album, this aspect is a very important one when considering a new Buckethead experience. At least for me!

Others here might not give a ...., but I did, and I wanted to let other potential buyers know that this album isn't only Buckethead riffs and a drum machine.

This album is A-Okay and then some! Also, I want to point out the fact that I mean no disrespect to the other reviewer, it's just that I don't understand how he/she could possibly type that statement. Also, the term guitar "solo" can be defined differently by each individual, although in a standard death-jazz-funk-blues-tech-guitar playing context there are many guitar solos on this album.

Okay, this isn't anything great by any means, but is it fun to listen to? Hell ya. Is this some of his better stuff? No. Is it still fun to listen to? Yes. Does the drum machine get tiresome after a while? Yes which is my main complaint about this album. IF it didn't use a drum machine it would be 50 times better.
As I said before, this is just a fun album to listen to, nothing more than that.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUCKET OF BRILLIANCE, June 20, 2005
This review is from: The Cuckoo Clocks of Hell (Audio CD)
THis is the most advanced piece of guitar music i have ever heard. It may take u a couple of listens before u realize the genius behind this one. This album constantly changes rhythms and buckethead rips thru with incredible phrasing, odd timing, cosmic sound twirls buy this one if you like advanced music, and buy this one to support BUCKETHEAD a present day genius.
