Editorial Reviews

Review

Stacey Trock has compiled 10 crochet stuffed animal patterns with a complimenting item for baby, hats, blankets and more.
Stacey's animal patterns vary from amigurumi knitted dolls and stuffed animals in size. Her animals are larger and have more cuddle power.
She has created this book from a mother's point of view. She highlights a safety warning and alternative for eyes and nosepieces for children under three. She also addresses stuffing guidelines, on what not to use. The patterns suggest using acrylics and superwash wool yarns and those made from plant fibers. With a mother's busy schedule, there is no need to worry when they get dirty. You can throw them in the washing machine.
There is an easy Hoodie Bird Blanket made from the single crochet stitch. The Sydney Snuggly Penguin and the Polar Penguin Hat compliment the blanket. There is a Tammy the Teddy Bear--who doesn t love a teddy bear-- with a Striped Bear Blanket. A bunny, pig, cat...are all patterns with blankets, hats and a bib or two to match.
Most children have a favorite stuffed animal. Make one of these for your little one or as a gift. I particularly liked her blanket patterns. They were attractive and looked cuddly, with a touch of different.

More About the Author

Stacey Trock was born and raised in Silver Spring, Maryland, where her mom taught her to crochet at the age of 6. Although she loved crochet, her pursuit of the craft was limited to entries in the county fair and presents for family.
The summer after finishing school, Stacey was in the midst of a quarter-life crisis, and her boyfriend was away in Europe. Looking for something to do, she designed two crocheted stuffed animals. And she hasn't stopped since! After making her first animals, she heard the call of the crochet-bug loud and clear, and went into crocheting full-time. In 2008, she founded Freshstitches, an amigurumi design company, where many of her stuffed animal designs are featured.
In addition to designing, she also works at a fantastic yarn store, where she teaches knitting and crochet, and also helps customers solve yarn-related crises. In her free time, Stacey loves to travel and, since she isn't looking for a change in vocation any time soon, tries to not get left at home from any more European expeditions.
Visit www.freshstitches.com to view the full range of Stacey's designs.

5.0 out of 5 stars 20 crochet projects for little ones May 23, 2010
Format:Paperback
20 projects will keep you busy making wonderful items for baby. A hooded blanket or other afghans, several soft toys, several warm hats and a bib or two are all items you can choose to crochet for your favorite little one.

14 pages of general instructions which include how to size the hats begin this book. Each project has a colored photo of the items and a skill level and approximate size are also at the start of the project. A material, hook and notion's list is next.

The instructions are easy to read and tips can be found throughout the book in colored boxes. Any assembling instructions wind up the project. The book ends with a page of abbreviations, glossary terms, a weight chart for yarns and skill level definitions and a metric conversions list.

If crocheting is your idea of fun, this book will give you 20 reasons to get out your yarn and hooks and have an evening or two to yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book! July 15, 2010
By Brandi
Format:Paperback
I purchase a lot of crochet books and this one is a true delight for all levels. I even learned some new techniques from this book. There is a good balance of patterns for cuddly toys, hats, blankets, and a cute pickup truck. There is also a great pattern for basic animal shapes in order to create your own cuddly toy - nice. This book would make a great present, along with hooks and yarn, for someone wanting to learn how to crochet as she has really informative "easy" instructions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Animal Toys, Cute Creatures, and Childrens Comforts June 26, 2010
By Laura F
Format:Paperback
This book is full of wonderful toy and accessory designs. It's amazing how Stacey Trock has taken yarn and transformed it into 3-D animals. There is a very complete background and how-to section, that stresses child safety. Also, a discussion of gauge and sizing with basic crochet diagrams and advanced stitches and techniques as well. The animals are darling and varied, and the accessories are fun and practical. There a oodles of gift ideas. They are reasonably sized, so they can be completed in a relatively short time. I recommend this book for kids toys, blankets, bibs, and hats.
