Book Description

March 2003
Gillian Souter's own individual style combines a love of all things small and furry with a touch of humour - and this book has both in abundance. There are woolly sheep gambolling across a pillow that will certainly help anybody get to sleep, the koala family enjoying an evening of domestic bliss, and a series of whimsical cards to stitch, such as 'Happy Bearthday' or 'Bear Up!' specially for a poorly friend. A little bluebird designed as a nursery frieze will bring a wry smile to every mother, while the cheerful rabbit sliding up and down the letters of the alphabet can't fail to be a great hit with all the children. Colour charts and full instructions for making each project are side by side with the designs, making the sections compact and easy to follow.

Who can resist adorable little creatures cavorting about? I am so glad I bought this book, the designs are . . . well, exactly as the title says, cute and cuddly. Many of the designs are given with additional little projects and instructions for finishing them, such as a scissor holder, thread holder, pajama satchel, even instructions for creating a simple framed card. The patterns are very easy to read, are in full color and seem fairly simple to stitch. This book would be good for beginners and experienced stichers who are looking to add something fun to their stitching library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous designs, June 10, 2010

This book is full of perfect designs for whimsical gifts for children or just the young at heart. There are also many project suggestions for ways to use them. Some of the designs are laid out in panels that tell a story - I particularly like the hedgehog who starts off standing among flowers, rolls himself into a ball, and ends up decorated with the flowers! Many of the designs are quite simple, without elaborate color blending, making this a good book for less experienced stitchers or for a quick (but adorable!) gift. It's also good for a light relief project if you need a break from something more demanding.
