Book Description

November 1, 2007
What is the secret of the universe? In December, 2009, scientists at CERN, between Switzerland and France, broke the speed record of colliding protons to discover the mysteries of matter and the cosmos. OMEGA - the first story in Nueva Onda's Cuentos Insolitos - looks at this passionate adventure in which competing physicists at CERN and Fermilab, in Illinois, try to lift the veil of human existence. Thrilling situations, unexpected endings in all of author Jorge Covarrubia's stories.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

"Biblioteca de las Voces" adds two fine programs to its growing series of Spanish audio titles. "The Story of a Panic," written in 1902, was Forster's (Maurice, Audio Reviews, LJ 11/1/96) first published short story. The tale of young Eustace's apparent encounter with Pan combines fantasy and social realism while satirizing the smug snobbery of an easily panicked group of British tourists. The story's characters are vividly portrayed with subtle irony, and the bucolic scenery of the Italian countryside is masterfully described in idyllic prose. The translation by Rodolfo Walsh flows very effectively. The nine short stories by Argentinean writer and journalist Covarrubias presented as Cuentos Ins?litos (Unusual Stories) cover a wide and unusual spectrum of topics (e.g., subatomic particles, classical music, Buddhism, satanic rituals, and Nazis). The conciseness and precision of his graphic accounts is compelling and makes for easy listening. Frank Rivera, the narrator of both sets, captures the nuances of the characters with his expressive and well-modulated voice. These two titles are recommended for Spanish-language collections.ARoxann Bustos, Augusta State Univ. Lib., GA
