4.0 out of 5 stars Well Designed For What You Pay!
I picked up this Cuisinart DCC-690 simply knowing that it wouldn't suck. For the (less-than) $100 I paid for it, I am quite happy with its performance. It is reliable thus far, the brew is decent, and my favorite thing is that the brewing/grinder assembly is fully washable.

3.0 out of 5 stars Coffee tastes great, but must clean entire maker each time
I just purchased the Cuisinart Grind and Brew. The coffee really tastes great. The only problem that I have is that the unit must be cleaned after each use. Sure, it is easy to clean, but it does take more time than non-grind type units. Condensation forms in the grinding area, and the coffee grounds stick. Grounds also stick to the area where the coffee is blown into...

Bottom line, the coffee is good. Just know that you have some cleaning to do. I think it is a flaw in the design. There is no where for the condensation to go from the heated water,so it forms in the grind area.

A lot of folks don't know that coffee makers and mills NEED to be cleaned regularly for the purest flavor. I learned that from a friend that worked for a corporate coffee chain that begins with "S".

I appreciate that I can cleanse not only my coffee carafe and filter basket, as well as my grinder in the sink or dishwasher! You know that grimy grunge that forms in your coffee filter basket- even though you rinse it daily? Not tasty in my coffee! A bit disappointing is that one still has to wipe out the inside of the grinder/filter area once parts are removed. Not a big deal, but yeah, an extra step I could do without.

A grind and brew with a (vacuum) carafe, that would be a step up (to keep the coffee hot for longer periods). I don't like 'overcooked' coffee that's been on a burner for more than a few minutes. So, if you have a crowd or just one person, this unit works just fine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cuisinart DCC-690PC, February 13, 2011
This review is from: Cuisinart® Grind & Brew 10-cup Automatic Coffeemaker DCC-690PC
This is our 3rd Cuisinart Coffee maker. Why we bought the 2nd and 3rd
is a good question. These coffee makers need to be cleaned. Ours were all
ruined because water got in them. Go figure...you use water to clean
and it ruins them. What a waste!! We would never buy another Cuisinart
because of the short life span and ridiculous design.

5.0 out of 5 stars See ya, Starbucks., September 9, 2010
This review is from: Cuisinart® Grind & Brew 10-cup Automatic Coffeemaker DCC-690PC
This thing grinds it up fresh and brews it hot all in one go. With the timer we get to wake up to the distant sound of the grinder then the nice welcoming aroma of the fresh coffee comes wafting into the bedroom and offers that perfect incentive to get out of bed. Cleans up easily after each use. No more need for Starbucks now. This thing will pay for itself in money saved by brewing at home in less than a month.
Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Expensive carafe!, August 9, 2010
This review is from: Cuisinart® Grind & Brew 10-cup Automatic Coffeemaker DCC-690PC
Great coffeemaker, however:

The coffee grind feature gets very moist, therefore a LOT of coffee sticks to it so it needs to be cleaned out often if you use it.

The carafe is VERY expensive to replace.

4.0 out of 5 stars Grind & Brew, April 20, 2010

Machine is easy to use and makes a great cup of coffee. It also looks good in the kitchen. I like the replaceable water filter. Grinder is a bit loud and grinds a bit longer than expected. There are several parts to wash and rinse, but it's worth the 2 extra minutes.

We found that cuisinart grind & brew coffee maker (dcc-690pc)to be dangerous. In the six months that we've owned this coffee maker, the spring locked door popped open on it's own when the brew cycle began, spilling hot water on our counter top. Since we set the automatic timer, not a great way to wake up in the morning.

I called customer service, they offered to replace it. When I asked if this was a design flaw, the customer service rep made no effort to find out. They also stipulated that the replacement has no warranty. This will be the last cuisinart product I purchase.
