5.0 out of 5 stars initial rating of 3
After making this purchase, I set my rating at a 3. First because I had not used the product yet, second because it it plastic and will not last very long except for the metal rod.....

After using the cookie press, I feel it works great. STill don't think it will last long but it does what its supposed to.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst product ever made
The cookie dough does not plop onto the baking sheet by itself; it just sticks to the press. And on my second use, the whole product gave way - the metal bar got stuck and jammed. I immediately trashed it and I promised myself never to buy a plastic cookie press ever again.

The cookie press failed after six cookies. The sharp teeth on the plunger shaft bit a chunk out of my finger when I tried to get the plunger to retract. The product is DANGEROUS to handle and completely unreliable. It's goin in the trash. FIND SOMETHING BETTER.

This cookie press was a piece of junk. The rachet mechanism didn't work and I didn't get one single cookie out of it before I threw it in the trash.

2.0 out of 5 stars Might work in more experienced hands than mine, January 1, 2010
This review is from: Cuisinart 20-Piece Cookie Press and Decorating Set (Kitchen)
I was very impressed by the Cuisinart name, but I must admit that it's not durable. The instructions are none too great either; they don't specify that you'll get better results with the beveled side of the discs facing OUT, nor that you need to hold the press close, but not too close, to the sheet. The ratchet mechanism jammed; then I tried forcing the dough through; that bent the ratchet further; then the ratcheting stopped working entirely. And there's some weirdness that keeps the dough from coming out if you put the press right on the sheet. But if you don't do that then your cookies look all deformed.

My 3 year old got a great result a couple times, but I had my back to her each of those times and couldn't replicate what she did. Maybe the answer is to use a very light touch? I hesitate to blame the machine because I'm a novice at this, but I don't think the problems can be ALL me.

I am very dissapointed on buying this product. The first time I used it, it broke. I don't know if I can return items on amazon since this is my second purchased I am not very familiar. I bought this item because most of my small appliances are from CUISINART, but I guess not all their products are good. I just ordered another one on ebay, but different brand. By the way, I give the seller 5 stars, he had great communication and fast shipping. I don't blame the seller for this product being deffective.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money, December 28, 2009
This review is from: Cuisinart 20-Piece Cookie Press and Decorating Set (Kitchen)
I bought this last week to make Christmas cookies. I first tried a recipe that I have used successfully over the years, and it wouldn't work. Reading the manual, it talks about how important the consistency of the dough is (doh!), and suggested not using any recipes but the ones in the manual. So I did. The plastic thing that is the press buckled against a butter cookie dough! Worthless.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible., May 4, 2011
This review is from: Cuisinart 20-Piece Cookie Press and Decorating Set (Kitchen)
I was really excited when I found this product on sale, because I hate the hassle of squeezing cookies from a plastic baggie with the tip cut off, and I've had really great experiences with every other Cuisinart product I've purchased. "At last!", I thought. Alas. It is terrible. I was not able to get it to work even once. The ratchety metal bar was stuck when I took it out of the box. I was never able to pull it back to make a single batch of baked goods. I attempted to take it apart to fix it, but the ratchety thing is just way too stuck. A waste of $9.99. I weep for anyone that paid retail for this useless piece of junk.
