1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible
This machine is such a pain! Sometimes it works... lots of times it doesn't. Cleaning the chute every 7 uses is a pain, filling the water reservoir is difficult, and the carafe spills every time you pour (bad design). The biggest problem is there is a top to the filter that spins to get in the right place for grinding or brewing and almost every other time i use it it...

My husband and I have been using this coffee maker for over a year and a half and we love it!! We mostly use fresh coffee beans, so we use the coffee grinder feature a lot. When we cleaned it for the first time, it was easy to do and watch along with the 'How-To' DVD. If we had to list one complaint it would be that when you get to the bottom of the carafe and need to pour the coffee out, you literally have to turn the carafe upside down (twisting your arm a little). We don't think that this is a major drawback because on the flip side, this carafe keeps your coffee piping hot for hours!! We highly recommend this coffee maker to those that love freshly ground/brewed coffee. It's worth the investment!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not For Everyone, But If Coffee Is Important, This Is Your Machine, March 17, 2010

We bought this coffee-maker a year ago, and it makes the best coffee that I've ever had from a home brewer. While it's true that the machine is a bit high maintenance, I find that, for the most part, it's pretty straight forward. The carafe, basket, filter and basket cover only need a rinsing, and the grinder needs a good brushing about once a week. I make regular and decaf every day so I own two hoppers one with decaf beans and one with regular beans and I just change out the hoppers so I don't have to deal with moving beans. If you are a serious coffee drinker, this is a good machine. If you want a straight up Mr. Coffee coffee-maker don't waste your money on this one.

The biggest problem is there is a top to the filter that spins to get in the right place for grinding or brewing and almost every other time i use it it doesn't line up right and i have to turn it off and on over and over again before it lines up and makes the coffee. Meanwhile, it has dripped all over and made a huge mess. I am going to try to get my money back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great coffee maker that makes delicious coffee, August 10, 2009
This review is from: Cuisinart Fully Automatic Burr Grind & Brew ThermalTM 12 Cup Coffeemaker DGB900BCC (Kitchen)
We bought this coffee maker 20 months ago and still love it. We make one pot (10 cups - not the full 12) every day. I only need to clean out the grinding chute when I add beans which is about every 6 uses. It's super easy to clean and even comes with a combo measuring spoon/cleaning brush which is what I use. We primarily use JavaNa flavored beans but have used the non-grind feature occasionally.

All in all, this is by far the best coffee maker we've ever owned and highly recommend it to anyone who likes to grind fresh beans for each pot of coffee. Much less clean up than our previous model and WAY easier than using a separate grinder.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly Designed, August 9, 2009
This review is from: Cuisinart Fully Automatic Burr Grind & Brew ThermalTM 12 Cup Coffeemaker DGB900BCC (Kitchen)
We have had this coffee maker for 1+ years now and we are currently looking for a new machine. You can not grind flavored coffee beans in it as it will clog the machine after just one use, due to their oil content. We now need to push up on the filter door when swinging it closed or the machine will not operate. It just keeps cycling over and over again beeping continually waking up the entire house. It has several parts to clean some are difficult to get to. We have stopped trying to use the the grinder portion of this machine it is now a very expensive and difficult to use drip coffee maker. The carafe does keep the coffee hot however it pours very slowly and you have to remove the top to pour the last 1/2 cup.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT! New carafe that pours well, July 11, 2011
This review is from: Cuisinart Fully Automatic Burr Grind & Brew ThermalTM 12 Cup Coffeemaker DGB900BCC (Kitchen)
I bought this coffee maker waaaay back and loved the coffee but hated the way the thermal carafe poured (poorly.) Well I bought a new one for a second home and wowowow they now have a new spout on the carafe and it works very well. I am so happy. The coffee is excellent and stays warm. Don't worry about the strength because within a few tries you will have the settings figured out. I highly recommend this unit. BTW their is a competitor out there but beware because they do NOT have a water gauge on the outside of the unit. You have to tip-toe to peer inside and even then it is difficult at best to see the marks. My sister has it and it is a pain in the neck. The Cuisinart unit cleans very easily too. Buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Coffee Pot With Issues, April 16, 2011
This review is from: Cuisinart Fully Automatic Burr Grind & Brew ThermalTM 12 Cup Coffeemaker DGB900BCC (Kitchen)
This makes great coffee when it works. As posted, you must clean the chute every 7-10 uses. Serious problems arise if you put frozen or cold beans in the chute because they condense moisture which will immediately clog the chute. Also take great care when pouring water in the reservoir because if it make its way into the chute, it will also clog the chute. I found that certain beans such as Starbucks which has a high oil content cause early clogging. I recommend using the spray arm on the sink to fill. I made a tool from 12 gauge copper wire to clean the deeper parts of the chute that the brush doesn't reach. Finally the pitcher can be very hard to open at times so I put a little veg oil to help that. A lid redesign is needed or a tool to help open the pot. Finally it is difficult to get the last cup out unless you are very flexible.

1.0 out of 5 stars POS, December 24, 2010
This review is from: Cuisinart Fully Automatic Burr Grind & Brew ThermalTM 12 Cup Coffeemaker DGB900BCC (Kitchen)
Take a pass. Worked great for a week, then continued to clog the grind chute. There is a design flaw (the oil in the coffee beans does not allow a smooth flow after repeated use.....even after cleaning at the recommended 7 uses).

Unless you're using "oil" free beans (as there are none)......take a pass and seek out another coffee maker (and for $200, you would think they would of tested this using all types of beans.....and we're using starbucks....pretty "regular" type beans)

2.0 out of 5 stars Takes a lot of cleaning, September 20, 2010
This review is from: Cuisinart Fully Automatic Burr Grind & Brew ThermalTM 12 Cup Coffeemaker DGB900BCC (Kitchen)
The instruction booklet says to clean the grind chute after 7-10 uses depending on the kind of coffee beans. I find that after each use the grind chute is about 50% blocked, so I have to remove the lid to the hopper lid, turn the hopper release knob, remove the hopper, open the channel cover and open the door to the coffee and brush everything out. This has to be done after each use. This is a lot of work. I have noticed that the interior coffee chute door does not open until the grind cycle is complete, so all the coffee grounds are compacted into this small chute then after the grind cycle you can hear the door open and about 20% of the coffee grounds are stuck in the chute. I think this is a design flaw, if the electric door was designed to open at the same time as the grind cycle started the coffee grounds would not be compacted in the chute and would flow easier into the coffee filter. This would save time on the cleaning.
