Must have, but needs improvement,
By A Customer
This review is from: Cuisinart CCO-40BC Can Opener, Brushed Chrome (Kitchen)
In a household where someone is always cooking something, an electric can opener is a must have, and this one fits that bill just fine. A few things we like about it are:1- VERY quiet operation A few things we don't like: 1- MADE OF PLASTIC!! Although it is brushed chrome, it does not tell you anywhere that the brushed chrome is PLASTIC! Overall, it is worth the [money] for the convenience, but there are a few things that could be better.

Easily the worst can opener I've ever owned,

You're definitely paying extra for the Cuisinart name, and I'm suprised they'd put it on something so poorly designed. I was expecting more given their reputation. It's plastic, light, and not very stable. It's VERY difficult to get the can to mesh with the cutter blade ... it usually takes me three tries. The cutter arm is held on with a tiny T-shaped piece of plastic that splits easily (ask me how I know). And to top it all off, it yanks the top up and splashes food around when it's done. Don't bother ... I wish I hadn't. I feel like I've been taken.

1. It is PLASTIC, Cuisinart never advertised this as plastic, it has a great chrome color but plastic...boo...looks cheap2. The Can Opener SPLATTERS way too much, what a mess. 3. Great Height and Color Improvements are definitely needed.I'm so disappointed in Cuisinart, they used to provide quality products. This is not a quality product.

Works Great !,

This review is from: Cuisinart CCO-40 Electric Can Opener, White (Kitchen)
Opens dog food cans easily and runs quietly. It seems a few extra dollars is the difference between a electric can opener that works great and one that doesn't work at all. This is the best one I've ever had.

Does not do the job,

It is very difficult to get the blade on this can opener to pierce cans to initiate the opening process. This limits its use, particularly for larger soup cans, where often the old manual can opener needs to be used. I am unimpressed and would not recommend this item.

What a total POS !,

This is the worst POS for a can opener that I have EVER seen! It lasted almost ONE WEEK before it fell apart. It's CRIMINAL in my opinion to ever sell something this shoddy in design, workmanship and inferior construction.
The first week the opener sort of opened cans OK but not great. By the second week the cutter head was wearing out and would not even hold the can, let alone open it. ABSOLUTE JUNK IMNHO. I can't believe Cuisinart would even place their name on this Chinese CRAP!

The worst can opener I ever bought,

Openning a dog food can is nearly impossible without at least 6 or 7 tries to get the blade to catch. I bought it; I regret the purchase; I threw it out. This really hurts the cuisinart image.

I completely agree with the reviewer from Portland. It is very difficult to get the can lined up properly and the cutting started. Also, this unit produces a particularly sharp, jagged and nasty lid which will slice you like a razor if you are not careful. I still use it but am looking for something else.

The simple made needlessly complex,
By
This review is from: Cuisinart CCO-40BC Can Opener, Brushed Chrome (Kitchen)
Given that the purpose of a can opener is to open cans, it's astonishing to me how difficult it is to fit any can into the cuisinart so that the blade actually penetrates the can lid.
What you end up with, repeatedly, is a can firmly clamped into place by the magnet and spinning around merrily without the lid being cut open. At all. There's really nothing in the design that gives you a clue where to hold the can to remedy this reticence on the part of the cuisinart to fulfill its calling. You put the can under the blade and the magnet, push down until it clamps, and watch the can whirl aimlessly. The can opener is plastic, so I doubt you could use it to smash open a metal can. I can't imagine that such a basic flaw in function could have passed unnoticed through any semblance of product testing. So what you have is a fairly attractive, vaguely art deco (it looks streamlined) electric humming machine that might, on occasion, deign to separate a can lid from the can proper, with some judicious coaxing. |
